Obituary of James Alvin Smith
James A Smith
Passed peacefully away on March 18th, 2022, age 87 years, in the presence of his loving family, at his home in Manuels, CBS. Mourning his loss is: Barbara, his loving wife of 67 years, daughters: Daphne (Rad), Betty (George), Judith (Paul) and Barb (Derrick); sons Ron (Donna), Jim (Mary Jane), Greg (Jackie), 19 grandchildren, their spouses/friends and 13 great grandchildren, relatives and friends. Dad was a lifelong community activist and volunteer with numerous groups and organizations, and instilled this trait in his children and grandchildren. He served on the Board of the CBS Food Bank, for many years’ coached minor hockey and softball, and led the CLB Foxtrap Co. He was inducted in the CBS Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the growth of sports and recreation. Dad, too, was a proud Mason, Westmorland Lodge, serving in various Club capacities over the years. He was a member of the Prince of Orange LOL#23 and Rainbow RBC#867 in Conception Bay South. Our dad was deeply dedicated to the church, St. John the Evangelist, Topsail, and served in many Parish capacities. We’re sure Dad will be fondly remembered by many, for his cooking skills, whether at the Lodge, at Parish dinners, fundraisers or at home. Dad followed with pride the achievements and adventures of us, his children, our spouses, our children and our grandchildren. While our hearts are saddened by Dad’s passing at this time, we know he is at peace and that his giving legacy will live on. Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, CBS on Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022 from 3-7 PM. Funeral Service to take place in St. John the Evangelist Church Topsail, on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Topsail. The family respectfully asks that masks be worn during the visitation and funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the CBS Food Bank at cbsparadisefoodbank94@gmail.com, or the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Foundation.
