Obituary of Sheila Saunders

 With heavy hearts and a lifetime of memories, we announce the passing of Sheila Mae Saunders (nee Burt), age 68 years who passed away on March 17, 2025. She is now together again forever with her loving husband, Edgar Saunders, who passed away on March 13, 2022. Born in Twillingate, Newfoundland on July 13, 1956, Sheila was an incredible wife, mother, nanny, sister, and friend.

She is predeceased by her parents Obadiah and Violet Burt and husband of 48 years, Edgar Saunders.

Left with loving memories are her fur companion Willie, children Wallace (Shelley), Serena (Lloyd), Nena, and David (Mallory), along with grandchildren Austin (Laura), Haley, Dylan, Claudia, Leo and Serena. Also leaving to mourn are siblings Raymond (Phyllis), Rosalind (Carl), Lester (Zeny), Winston (Michelle), Monica (Chris), and Adam (Renna). Additionally, left to mourn is a special friend and caregiver Jeannette along with a large circle of family and treasured friends.

Sheila was a dedicated wife, mother, nanny, sister and friend known for her remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. Facing health struggles, the sudden loss of her husband, and losing her home and belongings in a devastating house fire located in her favourite place Bridgeport with admirable strength and resiliency.  While she may not have realized it, she was a powerful pillar of strength, determination, and grit to remember.

Sheila was a friend to all who knew her; and anyone who came to know her had a unique Sheila tale to tell. Herself and Edgar creating the best childhood for their four children, instilling the importance of family, love, and kindness. Her unwavering love creating childhood memories to last a lifetime, including her nightly singing them to sleep, feeding special stuffed animal Alfie medication, and always being there when they needed her the most.  She shared a special connection with her grandchildren, who will remember her always.

Sheila was well known for her collection of tea pots, buttons, dolls and known for her love of animals and music. She provided the best home to her many fur children over the years including Peanut, Mork, Ranger, Allie, Lucy, Joey, and Willie. She spent many a day on drives with her late husband, Edgar, photographing nature, going to yard sales and enjoying the little things in life together.

The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation to the Doctors and Nurses of the Clarenville Emergency department and Carbonear Intensive Care Unit. The exceptional care, professionalism, and kindness shown during some of our darkest hours will not be forgotten.
