Obituary of Reginald Meadus
Reginald ‘Reg’ Churchill Meadus passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 23, 2025, at the age of 83. Predeceased by the love of his life Margaret (Marg), parents George and Valetta Meadus, and baby brother David. He leaves to mourn his children Barry (Sonia), Glen (Jennifer); Grandchildren Mitchell, Megan, Cameron, Nicholas, and Great Grandson Brooks; brothers Gary (Judy), Ralph (Judy), sister Lorraine (Wayne); as well as a large circle of extended family, friends and fellows. Reg was born in Grates Cove, where they lived a life and love of the water. This childhood and life near the ocean shaped his love and desire for everything outdoors, including many days fishing, and a love for hunting. Upon finishing high school, after a short stint working in Labrador, he trained to become a police officer. He spent 30 years with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, receiving The Governor General of Canada Police Exemplary Service Medal. It was in St. John’s he met his prized possession, Margaret, while Margaret was training to become a nurse. They quickly developed a love like no other, building a life and family, settling in Conception Bay South, and raising their two boys Barry and Glen. They loved the cabin life with many years in Islington and Goulds BigPond, and visiting their many friends in Hodgewater Line. Enjoying over 30 years of retirement together, spending many winters in Florida, and partying well into their later years. Reg was well known for his wit, humor, and great pride in his profession. He spent many years volunteering with the Mazol Shriners, and was a founding member of the Keystone Kops, bringing joy to many children during the St. John’s Christmas parade. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the medical staff at St. Clare’s hospital for the comfort and care received during his short stay. Reg is now at peace, resting with his one and only, Margaret. Together again. Visitation in Hickeys Funeral Home 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Wednesday, March 26th from 3-7PM.
