Florence Ivany Obituary

It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Florence May Ivany on July 17, 2025. She was 78 years of age.

Florence was born February 26, 1947 in the beautiful community of Deer Harbour, Random Island. She often spoke of cherished memories growing up there and held the people she shared this time with close to her heart. After a family sickness and eventual resettlement, she lived in nearby communities of Aspey Brook and Harcourt but settled long term and raised a family in Manuels, Conception Bay South. Prior to illness, she was an active member of the community, regularly volunteering at All Saints Anglican Church and attending various community events and musical gatherings.

Florence was the pillar of her family and dedicated her life to caring and being a helping hand to all who needed it. She lovingly cared for her late husband, Whitfield Ivany at their home until his passing in 1999 and saw to it that he would remain with his family until the end. She was a tender soul with a strength to overcome adversity to be admired. Widowed twice, she continued to be unwavering strength for her children.

She found the purest of joys in her grandkids. They were the absolute center of her world. She jumped at every moment to make memories, share a laugh and show them how cherished and loved they were. She wanted to know every funny story of their day in the things they would say and do and proudly tell them to everyone who would listen. Artwork and photos were worth more than gold and were on display and stored for sacred keeping. Her loss to them is altering, but the impact she had, and her guiding love will forever be part of who they are.

She always saw the best in people and was a confidant to many. She had the ability to bring positivity to every situation and was a reliable shoulder to lean on. Never an ill word to share and always saw more to people then their worst days.  Wherever she went she was quick to find connections with people and would leave having made new friends. Through her many hospital stays and time at dialysis she never complained and took what life had to bring with grace, humor and appreciation.

As a family, we were truly blessed to have her as our center. Through life ups and downs, there were always practical jokes to be played, excursions to be had and magical touches to all holidays. She taught us the importance to find joy in life’s little moments and to never take anything for granted. We will forever hold her with warm memories, laughter, appreciation, quiet moments and tears, but most importantly, love.

Florence is predeceased by her late husband George Ings and Whitfield Ivany, father Lionel, mother Jessie, sister Marina and daughter Paula.  Left with loving memories are her children Terry (Michelle), Robbie (Sonja), Trina (Nathan), Jessica (Ryan) and daughter/niece Karen (Daryl); brother Sam and sister Rebecca, grandchildren whom she loved dearly Terry George, Kelsey, Hailey, Addison, Nolan, Brayden, Kevin, Philip, Jimmy, Riley and Kayla and great-grandchildren Neveah and Olive. Also, a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends whom she fondly cherished.

Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Monday, July 21st, 2025, from 3 – 7 pm. Funeral service in All Saints Anglican Church, Foxtrap on Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, at 11 am. Interment in All Saints Anglican Cemetery, Dunn’s Hill Road, Foxtrap.
