In loving memory of Doreen Walters, 1945–2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Doreen Walters of Conception Bay South, Newfoundland on August 13, 2025, at the age of 79 years.

Born on Isle Valen, Newfoundland in 1945 to Jethro and Gertrude Williams, Doreen’s unwavering faith guided her in life, and was reflected in her gifts of love, laughter and kindness. Doreen found particular joy in spoiling all animals, especially dogs and cats, and in nurturing her plants and flowers.

Doreen was a dedicated educator for 35 years and had a unique ability to make her students feel valued and supported. She started her career in Codroy, then later taught in Port-aux-Basques - where she met Bill, the love of her life. She went on to teach in Labrador West for nearly three decades.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Doreen was a devoted wife of 58 years to Bill Walters, a loving mother to Paula Walters (David Dazé) and Lori Evoy (John), and a cherished grandmother to Rebecca Evoy (Alexander Quilty), Charlie Dazé, Grace Dazé, Abigayle Evoy, and Ella Evoy.

She is also survived by, and will be dearly missed by, brothers Percy Williams, Clifford Williams (Sheila), Calvin Williams (Betty); and sisters Linda Wicks (George), and Doris Williams (Chantal Menard), as well as her many nieces and nephews. Doreen is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Grace Lester (Don).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Doreen Walters.

Some souls leave behind a trail of light that is never forgotten. When we lose someone, we love, continuing life without them can feel almost impossible. We can honor their memory by embracing the love they left behind, knowing they’d want us to find joy and carry their light forward.
