On Sept. 2,2025, Major George Winston Dodge (age 83) passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at his home in Chamberlains, NL. He was born to William and Sarah Dodge on Sept. 24,1941in Little Heart's Ease, NL. After leaving Little Heart's Ease in 1959, he began teaching school for 4 years. Then in 1963 he joined RCAF where he trained as a Nuclear Weapons Technician, serving at #3 Wing Canadian Base in Germany for 3 years. After getting married to Cora Louise Porter of Long Pond, N, they responded to God's call to officership with the Salvation Army in 1967 and were commissioned in 1969. During their 30 years of officership they served in 13 different appointments. In 1970, they welcomed their son Stephen and in 1975 their daughter Coralie.
Predeceased by brothers Jonah and Bill and sister Ivy, and sister-in-law Clarabel, as well as 2 infant brothers. Also sister-in-law Mona Caines (Roger) and brothers-in-law Donald Porter, Cyril Porter and Pleman Higdon, as well as nieces Roxanne Howse, Andrea Caines, Stephanie McIntyre and Dana Caines.
Leaving to mourn his beloved wife of 58 years, whom he cherished, Cora and his treasured children whom he adored, Stephen (Janaya) and Coralie (Bill) Thompson, step-grandchildren Charles, Jessica and Lucas Thompson. Brothers Eric (Amy) and Melvin (Juanita), sisters-in-law Jean Dodge and Ann Dodge, Mary (Woodrow) Reid, Rose (Dave) Ivany and Lily Higdon. Brothers-in-law Jerry (Kathy) Porter, Bob (Arlette) Porter and Ken (Trudy) Porter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who loved him dearly, cousins and extended family members and numerous friends he had made throughout his lifetime.
Visitation will be at Hickey's Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Sat, Sept. 6 from 1 - 5 P.M. and Sun, Sept. 7 from 2 - 5 P.M.
Funeral service will take place on Mon, Sept. 8 at 2:00 P.M. at the Salvation Army, CBS, with internment to follow.
No flowers by request. Donations can be made in his memory to the Salvation Army CBS New Building project.
