Gerald (Gerry) Manning Obituary

Gerald (Gerry) Kevin Manning

August 25, 1951 – September 9, 2025

It is with broken hearts that the family of Gerald (Gerry) Kevin Manning announce his peaceful passing after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife and children, on September 9, 2025. Originally from Mundy Pond, Gerry was proud of his roots and never hesitated to tell it like it was. He had no backdoors, an unmatched sense of wit, and a sharp tongue always ready with a clever comeback. A hardworking man, he dedicated his career to places like Colonial Garage, Speedy Automotive, and NAPA, earning the respect and friendship of many along the way. Gerry’s greatest love story began many years ago on a bus ride to Gonzaga, where he first laid eyes on Rosalind (Roz) as she walked to Bishop’s College. It was love at first sight. He once famously declared, “I’m going to marry that girl one day.” And he did. Over 52 years of marriage, Gerry and Roz built a beautiful life together, raising four children and later welcoming six cherished grandchildren and his bonus grandchildren into their hearts. Gerry often expressed how proud he was of his family and all their accomplishments. He truly lived for them. The Manning Clan, as they’re fondly known, has never claimed to be perfect—but what set them apart was their unwavering love and unity. There were highs and lows, laughter and tears, but through it all, they remained tightly bonded. Grace, understanding, and unconditional love defined their journey—just the way Gerry would have wanted it. Gerry is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mary Manning; his sister, Patricia Sing; brothers-in-law, Charlie Sing, Jack Ashford, Clarence Cook, Ed Murphy, and Jimmy Cole; and his parents-in-law, Clarence and Olive Cook. He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of cherished memories His beloved wife, Rosalind Manning (Cook). His children, Corey Manning (Julie), Corinna Patey (Ian), Krista Manning (Mark Horlick), and Gerald Manning (Lindsay). His adored grandchildren: Abigail Patey, Andrew Patey, Olivia Hamlyn, Cassie Manning, Declan Manning, and Charlie Manning; and his bonus grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn: His siblings, Marg Ashford, Maurice Manning (Karen), and Madonna Cole. Sisters-in-law, Elaine Barnes (Bill), Cynthia Cook, Bev Papousek (Mark), and Karen Johnston (Pete). As well as extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly. Gerry’s legacy lives on in the strength of his family, the laughter he brought into every room, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. As Gerry would often say, “And the beat goes on.” And for those who loved him, it always will. A special thank you to the incredible and compassionate medical teams at the Cancer Clinic, HSC 4NA, and the Palliative Care Unit at the Miller Centre. The family would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert Slaney and Christine for their unwavering care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Cancer Care Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador or the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Friday, September 12th, 2025, from 3 pm – 7 pm.
