Charles Henry Dawe
January 16th, 1943 - September 26th, 2025.
Passed away surrounded by love. Predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Marjorie, and his sister, Mary Twyne. Survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Charlene, Bud (Andrea), Angela Murphy (Sean), and Jody (Lynn); his brothers, Tom (Norma) and Carl; and his sister, Rita Willcott (Joe). Also survived by his grandchildren; Tyson, Hannah, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Tiffany, Robbie, Charlie, and Jacob, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his beloved pony Bronco, and a large circle of extended family and friends. Dad was a lifetime school bus driver, farmer, and butcher, and when forced to retire early, he spent his days in the barn — cutting apples, cleaning stalls, and “brushing the calves”. He used too much of everything — feed, sawdust, hay, and water — but he was in his happy place. We would say to Dad, “What did you do today, Dad?” and his reply was always, “I never stopped today.” Dad was so loved, a kind and gentle soul. He fought with so much courage and determination. As Dad’s illness progressed, he always knew us; he just didn’t know this life. We believe in the power of prayer, so when things got too heavy Dad said, “Take it to the Lord in prayer,” and so we did. Charlene has been our rock. Her care for Dad over the past few months has been unwavering, putting his needs above everything. They say everything happens for a reason, and we were right where we needed to be. We promised Dad he would remain at home, and so he did. He left this earth in comfort, dignity, and respect. We got this Dad, we are truly blessed to have taken this journey with you, and as you said— “at least you got that over with now.” Special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Perry, Home Support Dementia Team, Dr. John Janes, Commonwealth Medical Clinic, and his caregivers, particularly Gabrielle and Isabelle Murphy. Also, special thanks to his brother-in-law, Freeman Twyne. Cremation has taken place, flowers are gratefully accepted or a donation can be made to the Canadian Red Cross (Link: Canadian Red Cross) or a charity of one’s choice. Visitation at Hickeys Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, CBS, NL, on Tuesday September 30th, 9am to 12:30pm. Service to follow at Hickey’s Memorial Chapel at 1pm.
