Barbara Porter Obituary

Tuesday evening we said goodbye to our beautiful and dedicated Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and into the arms of Jesus at the age of 79. Preceded by her husband Wilson and infant daughter Susan. Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life are her children, son Steve (Kim), daughter Karen (Darren), her precious grandchildren, Chris Neuss, Janessa Grandy (Matt), Lucas Porter, treasured great- granddaughter Rowan Mae Grandy, sisters Goldie, Cindy, Sue, Nina, and Tina, brothers Frank, Wayne, Paul, Ralph, Perry, and Trevor and a large circle of family and friends.

Mom was a lifetime volunteer in her community. She was very active in her church family at All Saints Parish, in various ministries over the years. She began and led in many, a few near and dear to her heart was always working with the children, in Godly Play, Vacation Bible School, church camps, and Confirmation. As well, the Funeral Reception Committee meant so much to her.

Mom was a long and active Member of the Girl Guide movement, beginning as a Brownie Leader then moving onto District Commissioner, Area Commissioner, and Trefoil Guild. Through the years she was involved in taking many girls to Provincial, National, and International Camps. She was the First Lady LTC leader in the CLB Foxtrap Company and volunteered with them in many ways. She also volunteered in the 1996 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, CBS.

Mom received many awards throughout her journey as a volunteer, a few being the Conception Bay South Citizen of the Year, 2018 Bishop award of Merit and 125 Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Metal 1867-1992.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to mom’s two special sisters Goldie and Cindy, who have loved and supported mom and us through so much over the years. Thanks to Karen’s special friend, Kathy, your presence and love has helped through the most difficult times. As well, to the staff of Heritage Square Retirement Living and Chancellor Park for their kindness and care given to our mom over the past 5 years, it will always be remembered.
