Sheila Searle

March 23, 1947 - January 19, 2026

It is with great sorrow and loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Sheila Mary Searle, 78 of Conception Bay South, NL at the Health Science Centre on January 19, 2026.  She was surrounded by her loving family, after a brief battle with cancer.

Sheila was predeceased by her parents John and Catherine O’Neill, brother Frank, sisters Theresa Smith (Austin), Angela Ryan (Frank) and Cathy Mooney(Tats), brother-in-law Jim Ryan, her in laws  Richard and Beatrice  Searle, sister in laws Doris Tucker (Bob), Jean Downton (Clar), brother in laws Hubert Searle(Stella) & Paul Halliday.  She will also be met at Pearly Gates by her beloved pets, Josie, Sugar and Rocky, who she took the best care of.

Left with fond and loving memories are her husband of 60 years Rupert, sons Wayne (Cathy) and Darrell (Nancy), brother Tom (Frances), sister Agnus Ryan, sister in laws Sheila O’Neill, Ruth Haliday, Myrtle Casey (Mike), and brother-in-law Jack Mooney.  Sheila also had a large circle of extended family and friends, who were very dear to her.

Sheila thoroughly enjoyed taking care of others, whether it was doing a small favor, cooking up a feed, or lending a listening ear, she was always there for those she loved.  She spent many years working in the retail industry but truly found her passion when she operated Seaside Restaurant with her son Darrell for 13 years, prior to her retirement. In fact, she was well known for a great Jiggs dinner, a pot of soup and her famous gravy.  She loved to dance and this was evident as she and Rupert would jive across the dance floor so effortlessly.   She loved to paint, enjoyed a good game of cards with her close friends and enjoyed Rupert taking her for their Sunday drives, all over the Avalon.  She did all of this with a huge smile on her face and made all feel welcome, right to the bitter end.

A special thank-you to all who helped Sheila during her illness, including the staff at the HSC and Miller Center, but especially to Dr. Dave Hart, who went above and beyond and was always there when needed.
