Hilda "Goob" Bishop Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the peaceful passing of Hilda Bishop of Long Pond, CBS who passed away at St. Clare’s Hospital on January 20th, 2026, just 4 days before her 70th birthday.

Hilda was a spark in everyone's life, a woman whose presence brought laughter and smiles wherever she went. She was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her absence leaves a space that words cannot fully fill.

She was predeceased by Joan & Doug Searle, her father Gordon Lane, her Aunt Laura and Uncle Bob, her brothers Perry and Rod, and her sisters Linda and Betty.

Left to mourn with loving memories are her children: daughter Laura (Nurk Bannister), daughter Kelly (David Simon), and son David (Cheryl Bishop); her cherished grandchildren Brittany, Nicholas, PJ, Grayson and Irelynn; and her beloved great-grandchildren Alexander and Autumn. She is also lovingly remembered by her many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Hilda lived her life with strength, kindness, and an open heart. She had a quiet way of caring for others, of making people feel safe, welcome, and understood. To those who knew her, she was a steady source of love, wisdom, and reassurance. A constant presence for every season of life.

She found her greatest joy in the children in her life. Being surrounded by young ones brought her a happiness that never faded. Saturdays were especially dear to her, filled with laughter, stories, and play, whether with her nieces and nephews and their children or with her own great-grandchildren. She had a rare gift for making every child feel special, seen, and loved all while being silly, goofy and wild.

In keeping with who Hilda truly was, her family is extending an invitation to those who knew her to a gathering 4pm Saturday, January 24th, 2026, at the LOL Lodge for a potluck celebration in honour of her birthday and her life. Hilda was the life of every gathering, the one who brought the laughter, filled the room with stories, danced with anyone and everyone, and made sure the children were always included and laughing. This gathering will reflect the joy, warmth, and love she shared so freely.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of St. Clare’s Hospital, 5E. Your professionalism, compassion, and wonderful care of Hilda did not go unnoticed and are deeply appreciated. During such a difficult time, it was a comfort to know that she was able to be herself and share her true spirit with you all. As you all know if there was ever a moment that you doubted her strength she came back twice as hard to show you that she took it in stride and still came out smiling.

Hilda’s life was a gift. Her gentle spirit, her strength, and the love she gave so freely will never be forgotten.
