It is with profound sadness that the family of Hubert Armenious Fillier of L’Anse au Loup (born in Englee) announce his passing at St. Clare’s Hospital on January 24th, 2026, at the age of 79 years.

Hubert was a well-respected teacher and principal in L’Anse au Loup for 25 years. Most of his former students still call him Mr. Fillier and told him he was the best teacher they ever had.

Fishing was his passion and he was in the fishing boat as soon as school closed for the summer and the fishing season started.

Hubert especially enjoyed his yearly moose hunting trips with his sons and often his grandsons, as well.

Left with loving memories are his wife of 53 years, Gertie, sons: Jeff (Yolanda), Justin (Trina) and Chad (Tonya), grandsons: Dylan, Nathan, Ethan, Hayden and Evan. Siblings: Betty, Marilyn, Ross (Nancy) and Allison (Keith), sisters-in-law: Leah, Myra, Joan and Phyllis, brothers-in-law: Boyd (Jane) and Gerald and special friend: Rodney. Also, nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Predeceased by parents: Adolphus and Maisie, sisters: Bride and Margaret.

Hubert will be forever remembered for his easy going and pleasant manner.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Clare’s Hospital, Floor 7 East for the phenomenal care, kindness and compassion shown to Hubert (and myself) in his time of need.

Visitation and Funeral Service was held at Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Monday, January 26, 2026, with a memorial service to be held in his hometown of L’Anse au Loop at a later date.
