It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruby Barnes, on January 28th, 2026, at the age of 75 years after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 2nd,1950, Ruby lived a life filled with love, strength, and compassion, touching everyone she met with her nurturing soul. She had a deep passion for life and was proudly involved with the Royal Canadian Legion. Ruby was always the life of the party, known for her wonderful sense of humor and her ability to bring laughter, joy, and light wherever she went. Her presence brightened every room, and her energy was truly unforgettable. She had a rare gift for making people feel happy, welcomed, and deeply loved.
Left to mourn her passing, while cherishing countless loving memories, are her children, who will forever remember the strong and incredible mother she always was: Scott (Tracy), Dale (Archie), and Wanda (Trevor). She is also survived by her sister Elaine, with whom she shared an inseparable bond; her brother Ross (Ruby); and her devoted partner, Ernie, whom she adored beyond words.
Ruby will also be lovingly remembered by her large circle of nieces, nephews, and close friends. She especially cherished her role as a Nan and Great-Grandmother, a role she held close to her heart. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Samantha (Mick), Josie, Chantel (John), Evan, Sarah (Chris), Jeremy, and Chad. Her great-grandchildren—Chloe, Brandon, Blakely, Noah, Alanna, Ellie, and the newest addition, Krew—brought immense pride and joy to her life.
Ruby was predeceased by her beloved husband, David Barnes; her mother, Mini; her father, Fred; and her siblings Linda, Tasker, Graham, Harvey and Billy.
Ruby will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Her nurturing spirit, passion for life, and unwavering love will live on forever in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Friday, January 30th, 2026, from 11 am – 3:30 pm. Cremation to follow. Funeral service in the Salvation Army CBS Corps, Long Pond on Saturday, January 31st, 2026, at 11 am. Interment in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cemetery, Topsail.
