Bronson was born on January 28, 1941, in Foxtrap. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by devoted family, on February 4, 2026, after a fairly short illness. Our hearts are broken. He leaves to mourn Norma (née Warford), his loving wife of 62 years, and daughters Kathy and Pam (Terry Penton) and son Bruce (Christina Maxwell Porter), and three cherished grandsons, Logan, Connor, and Brayden Porter, as well as members of the Warford family and a most appreciated circle of friends, neighbours, and darts and hunting buddies.
He is predeceased by his parents William Richard (Bill Dick) and Beatrice (Beattie), sister June, and brother Clyde.
Bronson felt he had lived a good life and was proud of the roles he had and had taken on over the course of his 85 years. Husband, father, grandfather, son, grandson, brother, provider, caregiver, neighbour, and friend to many.
He was a man of many talents and interests. Those who knew him as a young boy said Bronce Porter was some smart; those who knew him as a man said he was a fine fella and a good man. A skilled tradesman, he was a master electrician who worked as an industrial electrician, construction electrician, electronics technician, and electrical inspector, always interested in new technology and taking courses in his fifties and getting tickets for welding and fiber optics. As a young man, he tried his hand at farming and fishing. Much later, he worked at Canada Post and then Coast Guard, travelling around Newfoundland and Labrador to maintain light stations and aids to navigation, delighting his own children and many of the children of Foxtrap when he occasionally returned home by helicopter and landed in Peddles’ field. Over the years, he was a ham radio enthusiast (VO1JM), an amateur sports enthusiast, who coached and organized with the All Saints Minor Hockey League, and a lifelong music enthusiast who spent many happy hours practicing, playing for his camping buddies, and attending and performing at open mic nights. His guitar was as well-travelled as he was, making trips to Greece, Alaska, across Canada and parts of the States, and all over the island and Labrador.
He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter and eagerly awaited and prepared for his regular hunting and snowmobiling trips to Millertown, only abandoning his annual moose-hunting trip in 2025 when he just couldn’t manage it anymore.
Our heartfelt thanks to the community care team in CBS and the Palliative Care Unit at the Miller Centre for their care and support over the past months.
