It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Clarence William Lewis of Avondale, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, NL on February 22nd, 2026, age 85 years. Left with a wealth of precious memories, his loving wife of over 50 years: Agnes ( Née Wade), his son: Dion (Sylvia and son William), daughters: Tina and Betti Ann, precious granddaughter: Faith, great grandson: Noah and the fur family member: Tanner.
Also survived by brothers: Steve (Pat) Lewis, Leo (Kit) Lewis, Wish (Sis) Lewis, Cyril (Winnie) Lewis, Don (Carol Ann) Lewis, sisters: Aggie (Jim) Power, Rose (Cyril) O’Reilly, Maureen Lewis, Dianne (Bill) Kennedy, Sandra Taylor, his brothers and sisters in law of the Wade family, and many cherished nephews, nieces, and friends especially Harold Furey and family and the Flannigan family.
Clarence is predeceased by his parents: Bridget (Née Hynes) and James Lewis, deceased members of the Lewis Hynes family, parents-in-law: Bernard and Elizabeth Wade and deceased members of the Wade family, daughter-in-law: Kimberly Babstock Lewis, brothers-in-law: Reg Taylor and Leo Dalton.
Clarence was a skilled tradesman as a journeyman boilermaker the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers Local 203. He was an active participant of the local for over 60 years, serving as President of the local for numerous years. He worked for many years as a journeyman boilermaker in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Ontario, concluding his career at the Holyrood Generating Station.
He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 6001, Avondale NL. Clarence was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, enjoying his fishing and moose hunting trips. He even cut the wood for the construction of his own house in Avondale, where he and his wife have lived for over 50 years. Clarence lived a good life and was most proud of his roles he had taken as husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, grandson, brother, provider, caregiver, neighbour, and friend to many. He was a kind, generous man with a big heart and was always there to help others in need. Though Clarence is no longer with us, his spirit lives on through the love we share, the memories we cherish and the lessons he taught us.
Visitation will take place at Hickey's Funeral Home, 294 Conception Bay Highway, Holyrood, NL, on Friday, February 27th, 2026, from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral Service at Assumption Parish Church, Avondale, on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at 11:00am with interment to follow at the Assumption Parish Cemetery. Social at Rumours Lounge, Avondale.
