Surrounded by love, Lucy Coates (née Foley) of Upper Gullies at the tender age of 86, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, with her family by her side. She was deeply loved, and her passing leaves a void that can never be filled.

Lucy lived a life rooted in devotion to her family, kindness to others, and an unwavering strength that carried her through both the joys and challenges of life. She found happiness in the simple, meaningful moments — time spent with loved ones, sharing laughter, and caring for those around her. Her home was always a place of comfort, warmth, and welcome.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Lucy’s greatest pride was her family. Her nature, wisdom, and enduring love created a foundation that will continue to guide those she leaves behind. 

An enthusiastic dart player, Lucy enjoyed countless hours of friendly competition, fostering enduring friendships. Together with her husband Bert, she was a dedicated, long-standing volunteer with the Kiwanis Club of Kelligrews, contributing her time and energy in service to the community. Her generosity and commitment to helping others touched many lives.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Arthur Bertrum Coates (Bert); her parents Clotilda and Charles Foley; her sister Susan; and her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Coates and Amanda Hynes-Coates, whom she held close in her heart.

Left with a lifetime of treasured memories are her loving children Debby, Robert (Michele), Heather (Jim), Terry (Patricia), Jeff (Roxanne), and Cathy (Perry); her devoted sister Mary; along with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her. She also leaves behind extended family and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and spirit.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all those who provided care and support to Lucy, especially in her final days. Your compassion and kindness will always be remembered.

As per Lucy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be a funeral or wake. The family takes comfort in knowing that Lucy is now reunited with the love of her life - Bert and that she lived a life filled with love, dedication, and strength — a legacy that will live on in all who knew her.
