David Haines Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of David Haines of Kelligrews on May 16th 2026, at the age of 82 at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s.
Predeceased by his parents, Emmie & Allan Haines; and his sister, Cynthia Gill.
Left with a lifetime of memories are his devoted wife of 59 years Patricia; his daughter Kym O’Leary and son-in-law John; son Boyd and daughter-in-law Sandra; his precious granddaughters Samantha (Steve), Kathryn, Courtney (Tom), and Brooke; and “Big Pop’s” treasures, his great-granddaughters Eleanor and Hazel Mae. Also leaving to mourn his passing are his sister Joyce Hudachek, brother Lorne (Louise), brothers-in-law Jack Breaker (Hilda), George Breaker (Karen), and sister-in-law Muriel Walsh (Jerome). He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and circle of friends, especially John and Jean Evely.
Dad was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors immensely. He and Mom built a beautiful life together and enjoyed their retirement years camping, boating and salmon and cod fishing up until his illness prevented them from doing so in recent years. But his greatest accomplishment remained his role as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
The family would like to thank the staff at the HSC 4 North B, Dr. Morkar, Dr. O’Dea, and his family physician, Dr. Fleming, for their exemplary care during Dad’s illness.
Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations can be made in his memory to the Dr. Jack Hand Legacy Foundation which provides financial assistance to Newfoundland and Labrador families of children battling hematology or oncology related illnesses.
Donations are gratefully accepted to Dr. Jack Hand's Legacy Foundation http://www.jackhand.ca/donate
