Toby "Tob" Mayo Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of Toby Walter George Mayo (Tob) announce his peaceful passing at home on May 26th, 2026, surrounded by his beloved dogs Riley and Buddy. Toby was born on 4th March 1967, to George and Grace Mayo in Buchans NL. Toby grew up a great sports enthusiast and even taught himself to swim at the early age of 3. Toby was on the swim team in Buchans for many years following. Toby moved to St. John’s NL in 1994 and met Ketrina Gulliver with whom he had a wonderful daughter Nowell Gulliver, the pride of his life. Although Toby did not graduate from high school, he earned his GED before moving to Ontario. In July 1996, his future wife, Pamela Russell, joined him there. They returned to Newfoundland and Labrador in December 1996 and Toby attended school in Grand Falls, where he completed his welding apprenticeship. He later moved with Pamela to Fort McMurray, Alberta, and worked for MSI, where he earned his journeyman certification. After receiving his papers, Toby was encouraged by MSI to start his own business, which he did around 2003. In 2008, he married the love of his life, Pamela Russell, and together they purchased a home in Deer Park, Salmonier Line, Newfoundland and Labrador. Toby later opened Big T Services in St. John’s, a home renovation business he ran until suffering a stroke in 2020. Leaving to mourn are his loving sisters, Rose Atkinson (Ted) and Diane Mayo, his younger brother, David Mayo (Corrine); his beloved daughter, Nowell Gulliver Waterman (Jason); his granddaughter, Kelly Waterman; his grandson, Luke Waterman; his estranged wife, Pamela Russell Mayo; his grandmother, Beulah Pinksen; his nephews, Ryan Wilson and Patrick Mayo; his nieces, Lisa Mayo and Waverley Mayo; his great-nephews, Cohen Mayo and Logan Cross; his great nieces, Nova and Winter Wilson; and many other loving family members. Also, his very good friends, Judy Coffin and Keith and Cheryl Normore. Toby was predeceased by his mother, Grace Normore Mayo Croke; his father, George Mayo; his siter, Georgina Beulah Mayo; and his grandparents, Sam and Bertha Mayo, and Walter and Daisy Normore. Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South, on Friday, May 29th, 2026, from 11:30am – 12:30pm. Funeral Service to follow in Hickey’s Memorial Chapel at 1:00pm.
