Like so many who had the pleasure of Mr. Evan’s company, he was a true teacher at heart. I have so many wonderful memories playing at Michele’s house, with her dad not far away, working on projects and an explanation as to how it was done. He will be sadly missed. My condolences to Michele and her family.

Will always remember Mr. George as an inspiring, dedicated teacher. My most memorable memory of him is in a grade 9B class at QERHS. My friend & I were, probably, a bit more interested in chatting, than listening. Mr. George looked at me & said, "you are loquacious. Guess you don't know what that means." "Yes, sir, I do. It means very talkative." I think he was suitably impressed! My friend & I had spent the weeks before looking up words in the dictionary that we would not have known. That word was one we had looked up a few days prior! Condolences to the Evans family. The picture below is from the mid 1960's and shows the essence of Mr. George W. Evans.

Helen and Family, Just thinking about George brings fond memories of his pleasant, engaging manner and his dedication to those he loved. I had the pleasure of knowing George as a fellow member of the NLTA Centennial Choir. He was always so pleasant and friendly. Through conversation,I discovered that he had known my father who was teaching near Plum point when George was there. They were delighted when they connected at one of the choir functions and were able to reminisce. He led such a full and productive life but always had time for everyone. He certainly has left such a positive impression on so many people. With sincere sympathy from Cynthia and Greg Fardy and Roy and Olive Sansom.

George was my Grade 9 Math teacher and my Latin teacher in Grades 10 and 11. He was my all-time favourite teacher. He was well-prepared and well-organized. Students always knew where they stood with him. In later years, I sang with him in the NLTA choir. He was very active in church and community and could always be relied upon to do his part. My sincere condolences go out to Helen and his family. With deepest sympathy, Connie (Barnes) Winter. Carpe diem. Tempus fugit.

Playing in the backyard, running back and forth through each yard to get to where we were going. Many birthday parties with Adam. I enjoyed listening to his stories and always enjoyed running into him in places. Always asking "how are you doing" "everything ok" and "how's your boy?". I had Mr. Evans as a teacher at the original QERHS and he did his best to teach me Latin. I'm afraid I wasn't a good student in that regard but 3 Latin words come to memory when I hear his name, AMO, AMAS, AMAT. From reading his obituary, these words reflected his view of family, teaching, retirement, volunteering and life in general. Condolences to the family.

I first knew George (I didn't dare call him by his first name then) when I was a student at QERHS many moons ago. He was not only my Latin teacher but also the leader of the local Army Cadets and in both capacities, when he spoke, you listened. Over the years work and travel intervened until more recently when we became reacquainted through our mutual friend, Cec Parsons, and through our mutual interest in golf. It was in the company of George and Helen that I finally accomplished the feat to which every golfer aspires, the elusive "hole-in-one". George really enjoyed golf and played right up until last year. To watch him and play with him at 90 years of age, was inspiring. As had been our recent practice, I had hoped to accompany him once again this year to our annual birthday breakfast. George, you will be missed and today our thoughts and prayers are not only for you but also with your wonderful family, Helen, Heather, Michele and Adam.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Evans family. Although we are sad and will miss him very much, he will live on in our lifetime of fond memories. We will miss the conversations on every topic imaginable, and of course the stories. With an astonishing memory and talent, Mr. Evans entertained us with stories, some over 70 years old, often rich with shenanigans from his youth or with his old friends. It was not only the storytelling that made every visit enjoyable, but his ability to inspire and draw out our own story. With keen interest and some probing questions, Mr. Evans set the stage for our own story, usually starting with “now where have you folks been and what have you been up to?” He would listen to our story with rapt attention (rapt from the Latin raptus). It was not only his sense of humour that we loved; on occasions too numerous to mention, we were grateful for his compassion and support. Mr. Evans was an inspiration to us both and will always hold a very special place in our hearts and memories. Debbie (Parsons) and Gary Nagle
