These words came to me yesterday and I was so happy to share them during the mass.....I always knew my mother was special and unique. I always had pride in knowing she had been at the call of others every day and every night as the Public Health Nurse in Bay D’Espoir before a doctor was posted there. And that she had saved lives, overcome her own fears to cross the iced bay to visit sick in Conne River, and gave away numerous personal items to those that were in need. I watched her enter the career of a business woman and succeed enjoying every moment. But until these past few days I never really understood the underlying difference of her from myself and others, and why hundreds showed up at the Funeral in a town that she & Dad moved into as senior citizens only 12 years ago. But through her brother, Terry, I was enlightened to understand it. She like him, would no matter how big her hurry or how much else was her burden, stop at a tasting station for green apples in Sobey’s to speak and listen to the worker to ask all the questions about why those apples were different and find out who that person was and discover a personal connection with that person. She always greeted people with a smile and would stop. She stopped and listened to that person and made a connection with them. How much we should all learn from this and walk away with this important life lesson. After all, giving, caring and loving other people is what we should all strive to be. It is truly God’s message to us. I love you Mom!
