I remember many occasions back in the 70s & 80s when Derek & I spent a lot of time together. Back when he had his apartment on Oxen Pond Road. I made numerous trips to St. John's from the west coast & Derek's door & heart was always open. I always enjoyed spending time with Derek and his many friends & family. We had many good times and one occasion in particular sticks out most in my mind. A trip to Conception Harbour in the family motor-home. We went there to dive the sunken wrecks at the old dock. Not only was it one of many enjoyable scuba dives we did together, but it was also the day and place, though Gail and her friends, that I met my wife Bev. So if not for Derek, I may have never met my wonderful wife! We will always remember what a kind & loving person Derek was. His door was always open & He was such a pleasure to spend time with. I feel a sadness & emptiness in my heart this week, as I am sure everyone who knew Derek feels. Let us take comfort in the wonderful person Dick was and know that much of our sadness and tears will dissipate and our fond memories will prevail.
