I extend my sincere condolences to Mr. Grubb’s family and friends. I first Mr. Grubb when he hired me as a Junior Executive Trainee at Ayre’s department stores in the early 60’s. He taught me the ropes of retailing and I excelled working for Ayre’s and Ayre’s Home Hardware for 22 years.
My retail career continued with my own
Home Hardware store and I never forgot the training and ‘tricks of the trade’ that Mr. Grubb instilled in me.
Our paths crossed many times during those years.
May you Rest In Peace Mr. Grubb.

So sorry to read of the passing of Mr. Grubb. I worked for him for many years in the office at Rhodi Services. I actually spoke to him just before his 98th birthday and was so surprised when he asked if I still had red hair! He was just as alert then as when we worked together. RIP Mr. Grubb

I began my career in the hair industry at Capri in Avalon Mall in 1974.....and continued under the guidance of John Grubb for 12 years thereafter. I often witnessed his kindness and generosity to those experiencing difficulty and also his keen business sense. I have very fond memories of those years. Condolences to Ruth and Robert and all of Mr. Grubb’s family. God bless!!!

So sorry for your loss. I didn't know John Grubb personally,, however my very first job as a hairdresser, over 40 years ago, was at a salon in the Avalon Mall that was owned by John Grubb. I worked there happily for many years. I eventually returned to college and changed careers, but I will always remember this man for the great start he gave to me when I first graduated from Trade School. Very happy to know that he lived to such a wonderful age.

I wish to offer my sympathy to John's friends and family. I spent my early years at Ayres department stores being guided by John. He came to live in Newfoundland when he was hired by the Ayre family to run the day to day operations of our Stores in the late 50s.
He left our operations to expand his other business operations including Top Tone Dry Cleaners. "Take a Tip. Try Top Tone" still rings a bell for older citizens of St. John's.
Many memories of our weekly conversations and discussions where brought back to me upon learning of his passing in the Telegram.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of John Grubb. I worked for
“Mr. Grubb” for 24 years. He was a very private man but at times he would share a few stories of himself as a young man.
He was the owner of many hair salons in the city , in Nova Scotia and in the
United States. Many stylists can say they had their first job with his company. I learned the business from this man as did so many others.
Rest In Peace “ Mr. Grubb”.

I was so very sad to hear of Mr. Grubb's passing. Many years ago, he had the confidence in me to give me my first job with real responsibility. I will always be grateful for that opportunity. In recent years, he and my family were brought together again and from then on, we stayed connected until his passing. My sister and I had hoped to spend time with him this Fall but with Covid travel restrictions in place, that was not to be. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. "God Bless."

So sorry to hear of Mr.Grubbs passing. As a young stylist entering this industry he influenced me to strive for more, to look beyond my present day. When I think back I was only 20 when I wrote and presented a policy book for the company to him. He then gave me a role to instruct organizational management to his salons. He flew me to Ontario this was my first taste into what this industry had to offer! He had an empire in our industry and many of the stylists that made it a career and are still around started with Mr. Grubb. Many never new him he was very private but his influence was large!

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Grubbs passing. I worked for him for almost 15 years. He taught me so very much about business. Over his years in the hair industry, he employed hundreds of hair stylists and gave many their start in the industry. I think he will be remembered by many, I know I will never forget him.
