Sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. I have known Elva for many years, when my Dad (joe Dawe) started working with the church. She was always so kind and always a smile. She would come to our house every week where she would play cards with mom, dad and a bunch of people and stay for hours. When Dad passed away she approached us and asked if she could take part in Dads funeral service, which we said absolutely and she did a reading.
Hold onto all the memories that you have and cherish them forever.

To Randy, Barbara, Desmond and all other family members and friends of Elva, I want to express my most sincere condolences on her passing. Aunt Elva to many who knew her, was a truly religious and somewhat serious melancholy lady. In all my years I never witnessed Elva to ever start a meal without first giving thanks to God.
With no intent to disrespect her, I want to let you know that Elva had a fun devilish side that I had witnessed as a youth and at many other times as an adult. Every summer, Elva & Gordon used to hire me on to help the family with general garden work like weeding, putting hay in and digging potatoes. One of the types of potatoes they planted were long narrow blues that had a name referring them to toes. Once she dug up a full cluster that looked just like a person and she laughed hysterically stating she had dug up the guy missing all those toes.
She proved to be a real trooper as well, when Gordon got ill, she often loaded the truck up with all the kids & Gordon and towed their travel trailer all over the island for camping. She was the main person in our family who looked after all the grave sites and when my Dad was terminal with cancer she didn’t leave his side. She was our go to person when we needed to contact the church for funerals, christenings and weddings and a mentor to my sister Laurie (Deloress).
Aunt Elva once told me a joke that is so bad, I can still only repeat it to my most Rowdy friends. She never said where she heard it but I often smile when I think of it and ponder who in God’s world would have ever had the gall to tell her such an awful tale :o)))
On another occasion, I left St John;s in a small car with my daughter, her cat & Elva. Loaded to the roof, we left to drive to Edmonton Alberta. I dreaded starting it but we had such a great time. Getting stopped repeatedly for speeding, I once witnessed the power of prayer when she started praying while the police was in his vehicle behind us with my driver's license. I said to her, this is going to be a bad one, after she said a short prayer, she tapped my arm and said you’re not getting a ticket this time and low and behold if the officer handed me back my License and said slow down and drive more carefully.
Family deaths during Christmas are no stranger to our family and it was Elva who often explained it in terms to help us understand and make sense of it all. I now want to say that through her great faith, I also believe that we should celebrate her life and rejoice in knowing that she is now not suffering any longer and in the loving arms of Jesus as well as many family members and friends who have gone on before her. Rest in peace Aunt Elva and for God's sake, don’t repeat that joke to ST Peter :o))))
