You taught me how to drive standard, introduced me to tools, made Asha her first moose sausages, and I call Asha "Mrs" because that's what you called aunt Audrey. You'll be missed by everyone. I remember my brother as a man that was tough as nails on the exterior but his heart was a big as one can get. There was nothing that he would do for his family or a friend in need. A little story, when I served with the Navy in Halifax I called Carl and told him I was coming into town and asked him if he would pick me up and of course he replied yes. The only problem was i arrived in St John's Harbour and Carl went to the Airport to pick be up. He never let me forget it. My brother now has no more pain, to Audrey, Tanya and Courtney you have lost a husband and a father and we have lost a brother and a son. From Carol and I our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Carl and I were great friends in our younger days and travelled often together to Norman’s cove while we dated our future wives who were friends. We had some great times together. Although we realized that Carl was seriously ill the news of his passing found us in disbelief. Carl worked for our company, Shawn Hann Trucking Ltd for more than 10 years. Carl was an exceptional employee, a very hardworking man, never missed a days work, always early for his run and was loved by all his customers. We were so lucky to have him as part of our team.
Carl never missed delivering a carrot cake for our family at Christmas, chocolate chip cookies for our girls, a carrot cake for Shawn for his birthday and the list goes on and on. This past Christmas he was ill but he made sure that Audrey had that carrot cake delivered to us for Christmas.
Audrey, Courtney, Tanya and Janice, please accept our sincere condolences. May God give you all the strength to get through this difficult time.

Our condolences and sympathy for Audrey, Tanya and Courtney, and the wider family. We were their neighbors for 11 years when the family had their convenience store on Hamilton Avenue. Carl was a great guy who kept an eye on the neighborhood and he was always friendly and interested in the lives of those who visited the store. We considered him and family as friends and were sad to see them sell the store in 2007. Carl was kind-hearted and generous - he would plow snow out of our driveway, and one one occasion let me use his truck to jump-start my car in order for me to get to work. I was amazed that he just tossed me the keys to his truck (as he couldn't leave the store unattended) and told me how to raise his snow blade. One of a kind and a great guy. He will be missed. We wish our best for the family.
