I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Butler. I have fond memories of him dropping by our house when I was small, the long drives with my father to Kelligrews before we had the highways, when I always fell asleep. We used to stay in a large house trailer in the woods Mr. Butler had in Salmonier on summer vacation, which eventually became Pee Wee Park and I even talked about it last summer when we went to get ice cream at the location. We stayed in the summer house Mr. Butler had in Bradley's Cove and I also went to visit that last summer and spoke to the lady who purchased it and told her about summer vacation there. To us, Mr. Butler was a big personality. I don't know exactly how him and my father met but my father worked for Bulter's Masonary and Island Construction for what seemed like most of my life. After many years of not seeing Mr. Butler, he dropped by with three of my father's cousins, Burton's, and since two of the Burton brothers passed as well as my father just over a month ago. I believe that visit was meant to be that day. Mr. Butler will be sadly missed and I'm sure by many for his big personality. Rest in peace, Mr. Butler.

1958 pee wee all star team. As with so many other young twelve year olds, I really enjoyed having Wilson as our manager. Last time I saw him was in 1993 when we held a 35 year reunion which Wilson attended. All the best to his family!

Wilson was a wonderful person in my life back in 1955-56 when I was a member of the St. John's Pee-Wee team that was the first from this province to travel to the national tournament in Goderich, Ontario. While Mr. Doyle (John Doyle) was a great coach, he was a bit of a disciplinarian; but he was complemented by Mr. Butler who was the one we turned to whenever we 12-tear olds had a problem or just needed some encouragement. Later in the 50s, Wilson worked with Dan Puddister, Ralph Chancey and myself as we learned how to referee minor hockey games. I've only seen Wilson a few times over the years, but they've always been warm and happy occasions.
My condolences to his family and friends. We've lost a good man, but with lots of fond memories

Pee Wee all star 56-57.
Wilson was our "bag man" which means he looked after the money for our team. He made my teenage time wonderful. If God made anyone better in life he kept it a secret. He was a great mentor to us boys. May God take care of him and bless him!

Wils gave me an opportunity to play on all the minor all stars teams. At the time I would have never been able to go on long bus rides around Nfld. , eat in restaurants along the way and have the best hockey sticks for the time. Someone paid all of this and we never had the money. I learned about life from Wils hockey which helped me in a long successful career of my own outside of hockey. R.I.P Coach.

So sorry to hear of Wilsons passing. A man who created many fond memories for kids wanting to play hockey in Conception Bay South when no arena existed. That says it all about a man who could make things happen. We have lost a special community builder.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family....
