Obituary of Gordon Decker
Gordon Decker: February 20, 1936 – April 3, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Decker. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in his 85th year. He was born and raised on Bell Island, NL. He moved to Portugal Cove and later to St. John’s in the late 1960’s. Gordon and the family finally settled in Conception Bay South. Over the years he worked in mining, construction, painting and plastering. He loved the outdoors and in his younger years was a great swimmer. Many times, he would tell us about diving from the cliffs of Bell Island and swimming from Bell Island to Portugal Cove. He loved to fish. Whether it was dropping a line by the side of a pond or out on the open water in a boat, he was in his element. Camping or going for a cook-up was also a favourite activity. He loved his food and really enjoyed a good meal. He will be sadly missed. Gordon is predeceased by: Parents: Israel and Mary (Clements) Decker, Siblings: William Clements, Tom Clements, Raymond Decker, Kelvin Decker, Donald Decker, Myrtle (Decker) Crann, Randall Decker, Granddaughter: Renee Decker Dawe, Great grandson: Cody Rideout. He leaves to mourn: Wife: Margaret (Ryan) Decker, Children: Janet (Wayne) Rideout, Gary (Michelle) Decker, David (Paula) Decker, Karen (Michael) Dawe, Sharon MacDonald, William Decker, Lesa Decker, Rita (Roy) Fagan. He is survived by 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
