Although I've only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. FitzGerald on a few occasions I feel like I knew him well through Scott's stories. Sincerest condolences on Cyril's passing. Cyril was very much a part of our family circle growing up in Mission Lane, Bay Roberts. He was much more than a neighbour, he was really a cherished friend with close connections to all 10 of my siblings and held in high esteem by my beloved parents. Since Cyril passed, I have heard from all my my brothers and sisters throughout Canada and their endearing memories of Cyril. Personally, Cyril was a mentor to me and his teaching career greatly influenced my own career as a Teacher.

Dear Fitzgerald family,
I was a student of Mr. Fitzgerald & am deeply saddened to hear about his passing. He was my grade 7 homeroom teacher & also taught French. My first name is Cynthia but my parents called me by my middle name Michele. From the 1st day of school in September and throughout the school year I reminded him every day during taking attendance that I went by my middle name but he always called me Cynthia. It was not until the last day that he called me Michele while handing me my report card & congratulating me on a successful year. He was a wonderful teacher who genuinely cares about his students.

It all started with the love and fascination for languages that he instilled in me in those early years. I will forever be grateful to him for that. I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of dear Cyril.Over the years he has had such a fond place in my heart.I first met him as one of my teachers back in my youth at Fred Kirby Jr.High.Later in life i often engaged in so many conversations about youth and how bad we all were as i packed his groceries working at Dominion.He was always so kind and pleasant and always had a smile on his face.It didn't take much effort to bring about laughter.I know he will be deeply missed.He was one of my favourite teachers and one of the sweetest people i have ever met.My condolences to the family.
