My strongest memory is when my uncle Ches protected me from his dog Lassie. I was. Ill say 8-9 and my mom Minnie and dad Heber came for summer vacation. Uncle Ches greeted us with love and brought us out to show us the backyard of his new house. His baby Lassie was tied and relaxing in her dog house. As a kid would be, I immediately started to run to pet her. I heard uncle Ches yell "don't Kimmy" and like magic he scooped me up in his arms and held me clise as Lassie charged out of her dighouse teeth bared and snarling. I started to cry and uncle Ches soothed me and i remember feeling so safe. Thank you uncle Ches for loving me!!!

Aunt Bren and family- thinking of you all during this difficult time. I remember writing a poem for uncle Ches about a chainsaw when I was a little girl. The smell of cut wood is always something I will associate with him. As I got older, I loved getting Ches talking about his stories and especially pirates. I swear he knew where there was buried treasure in St.Chads but I could never get it out of him. He was funny and loud and quick-witted as they come. He always made you feel welcome and he could talk to anyone. I hope you find moments of joy in all the memories he has given his family and friends. Rest easy uncle Ches.

Ches was my goodbuddy and best friend in high school He always sat right behind me in class and I never knew what he was going to do next. I remember one sunny day in late winter when he wanted to skip calls and nothing to do but have Ches' buddy park his convertable underneath the school window and Ches lifts it up and jumps out the window into the car. What a laugh we had! Saw him again after many years at his summr home in St. Chads You swear we have the same connection as we did in high school. Thanks for the memories ny buddy, Love and prayers go out to your family . Some day the pain of loss will lessen and the memories will become more pronounced. Our lost is heavens gain.

Ches was such a good friend and co-worker to my husband Melvin Burden(39 years in gov't) who passed last year Janurary 7th, 2021. There are no words to express my (our) sorrow in his passing. Ches (OMG) spoke to Melvin in the ASL language that they both greated and only they understood, it was amazing. Ches was a person that held no hands bared, hearing of his passing brings me (us) back to alot of years gone by along with another co-worker & friend Gene Garland & Gary Murphy, Brenda Reid & Ambrose (last name ??) among others. Ches you have been reunited with a long time co-worker but above all a good friend. DEEPEST CONDOLSENCES to your family, pass along my love and a thumbs up to Melvin for me. RIP my friend.

To Brenda, Tammy and girls ... We are so sorry to hear of Ches' passing. We all cared very much about him. He had "many a lunch" with Dad and Mom (Ches and Chloe) when we were growing up in St John's. The kind man that he was, quite often he would come with a bag of fish or something out of the freezer! Dad loved all of Uncle Godfrey's children but being his namesake, "young Ches" held a special place in Dad's heart! And Brenda, we appreciate that you and Ches never forgot about Mom after Dad passed. Our thoughts are with you as you say good bye! All our love ... Trudy, Suzanne and Michelle

Brenda & Family my sincere condolences on Ches's passing. I have many good memories of Ches over the years and the ones that stick out most are Sunday mornings at my dad's house with Ches, Ken, and dad sitting around the kitchen table while dad cooked Jiggs dinner. Dad would always give Ches a sample of whatever he was cooking and that would have been any type of wild game. The stories that were told around that table on those Sundays are priceless. Looking back, the world was a much better place then. Gone but not forgotten - God Speed Ches.

Brenda, Tammy and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Ches’s passing. I remember well 19 years ago when he was in hospital the same time as my mom. He had just suffered an aneurysm, I believe. Mom kept saying “go up and see Ches cz he is not going to make it”. Well he surely made it. Mom, on the other hand, was the one who didn’t make it. She was gone 3 weeks later. God bless.
