Mabel Dorothy French

1943-2022

 

Mabel Dorothy French, aged 78 years, passed peacefully away on March 15, 2022 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, surrounded by her family.  Mabel was predeceased by her parents, Emily and Arthur Smith; mother and father-in-law, Florence and George French; and brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Ruth French.  Mabel is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Malcolm; her daughter, Marilyn (Stephen); siblings, Theresa (Jim) Woolfrey and Arthur (Joan) Smith.  She also leaves to mourn her many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and an extended circle of family and friends. 

Mabel was a special woman who loved her family very deeply and dearly.  She was outgoing, making many lifelong friends through her journey.  She will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit by all those who knew her.

A special thank you to the staff of Heritage Square Retirement Living in Conception Bay South, who provided a caring and safe home for her when their home in Lewisporte was no longer adequate to meet her needs.  Also, a special thank you to the staff of 7 West at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, who cared for her like one of their own.

Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at a later date in Lewisporte.  As per her wishes, the family will be having a private casting ceremony in Mabel’s birthplace of Matthew’s Cove in Labrador.  Visitation will be held at Hickey’s Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm from Hickey's Memorial Chapel, Kelligrews.
