I'm so sorry to hear the loss of your wife and mother to your children Viola also so sad for her mom Shirley I was from Brigus Junction and remember Viola as the little red hair girl. I'm sure she's with her dad and other relative's , God will surely look after her she look's like an angel to bad I never had the pleasure of seeing her over the year's. Well, it’s not easy for me to express my grief for Viola’s loss. I left the Chemistry Dept. more than a year ago but kept in touch with Viola. She forwarded all my mails to my new location with her sweet personalized notes. I still have her memo. When I did not heard back from her during Christmas (2010) I learned of her health issue. I have four years of unforgettable memories from her. Coming from another continent, she warmly welcomed me with her sweet smile back in the Canadian cold winter of 2006. Once I got to know her, I noticed how unique & cheerful she was. In addition to her unlimited efforts to help me in the administrative part, she was a very good friend to me. I’d like to send my deepest sincere condolences to Viola’s family.
I arrived in the Chemistry Department at Memorial University about 6 years ago. As a 'come from away', I was immediately impressed by how friendly the staff were and of course Viola. She was always there with a smile on her face and stories of her family. Viola helped me with so many things related to both my work and home life and reminded us all the time not to take ourselves or life too seriously. When the department office was renovated a couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to inherit her old desk. We decided that together we would move it and set it up in my office because it was taking too long for the University crew to come and do it...and other professors kept asking if they could take it. (Not only was Viola popular - her desk was too!). We dragged the parts of the desk down the corridor to my office and put it together 2 or 3 different ways before we got it right! banged our heads on it a few times and had a good giggle. I will think of her everyday, her smile and her passion for life, as I work at that desk. She had such an influence on the Chemistry Department and although it won't be the same without her, her memory will live on.
Walt, Shirley, Paul, Carol and families. Losing Viola at such a young age seems so unfair. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you all. Although I didn't know Viola well, the times I did meet her I was always delighted by her happy nature and positive outlook on things. This has been a very tough and emotional time. We are so sorry to hear of Viola's passing. I have known Viola since grade 7 and have many happy memories of her. She was a beautiful person and a wonderful friend and we will miss her dearly.
