My aunt Betty passed away last evening. I have so many lovely memories of this lady.
Sadly, life got in the way of our relationship which I neglected in my adulthood, as years went by without us speaking, and we live practically next door.
Aunt Betty was a tell it like it is person; she was always entertaining, always a good listener, and she had a good heart. People miss that sometimes when there is a tough exterior.
I was always welcome in her home, except for the time I hit Kelly (I was 8), but she welcomed me back in short order once the drama had died down!
Aunt Betty threw the most awesome Christmases! As children, after our own gifts were opened at home, we would run next door and watch as Eddie, Michelle, Kelly and Robbie opened all of their gifts downstairs in the 'wrecked' room. She did Christmas like nobody's business!
Aunt Betty was proud of her career at the Taxation Centre. She was proud of her children and her home. She took pride in her appearance. Aunt Betty was a proud woman.
In recent years, Aunt Betty had some health issues that were being addressed and I kept saying to myself, I really should go see Aunt Betty... I never did take the time.
To Uncle Percy, Eddie, Michelle, Kelly, Robbie and her grandchildren: One is never prepared for the loss of a loved one. Words, however kind, can't mend your heartache: but those who care and share your loss, wish you comfort and peace of mind. May you find strength in the love of family, the warm embrace of friends, and the memories of your Mom's life with you.
Aunt Betty was unforgettable in her own way. She was loved and she will be missed.
