Aidan Howell

Obituary of Aidan Howell

Aidan Joseph Howell was called home to our Lord on May 20, 2023 at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his loving and devoted family after a brief illness.

Born August 16, 1946 to Cyril and Mary “Molly” Howell of Northern Bay. After graduating High School, he moved to St. John’s to study Laboratory Management at the Trades and Technology College. Upon receiving his diploma, Aidan started his first job at the Old Janeway Hospital, kickstarting a career that lasted over 30 years.

He married the love of his life Margaret Ryan “Margie” of St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Bay in 1967 and they raised three loving children, whom he dedicated himself in all aspects of their lives.

Aidan was predeceased by his parents: Cyril and Molly, brother William John “Johnny”, in-laws: Edward and Elizabeth Ryan, William (Bill) Ryan, Walter Ryan and Margaret Howell (Mullaly).

Left with precious memories are his loving wife of 56 years Margie, son: Sean (Madonna), daughters: Sherry-Lynn (Wayne), Paula (Dale), grandchildren: Amanda (Kristin), Adam (Paige), Robyn-Lynn (Adam), Liam, Malachy, Neason, Owen and Callie, great grandchildren: Ember-Rose and Adalynn. Sisters: Mary (Brendan), Betty (Bob), Helen (Jerry), Brothers: Pat, Chris (Cindy). In-laws: Ed (Eileen) and Joan (Felix). Also nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Aidan touched many people in his lifetime from his years working at the Janeway to his involvement in the RC Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was well known for his culinary skills and his immense love of social gatherings with family and friends. He was a kindhearted family man and we will miss his beautiful smile and jolly personality. After his retirement he enjoyed the simple lifestyle like fishing, cutting wood, watching the Bluejays, or having a good ole fire while listening to the cabin party with a cold glass of rum in hand.  He will always be jokingly known as the “Foreman”.
