Obituary of Stella Murray

Stella Mary Murray (née Wakeham), 90, of Kelligrews, CBS passed away on June 23, 2023.Stella was born in Petite Fort and treasured her memories of growing up there. In her later years, she enjoyed the occasional day trips to visit the village and often commented that she was happiest when she had a view of the water. Stella left Petite Fort to work on the military base in Argentia, where she met and married Pat Murray. They lived for several years in Freshwater, PB, before moving to St. John’s and eventually purchasing land and making their home in Kelligrews, where they were active members of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. As a mother of 10, Stella did not have the chance to work outside her home until she was in her 40s, when she was hired by the Canada Post Corporation the post office in Kelligrews, a job she loved.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Patrick (Pat) Murray, and her eldest and youngest children, Jacinta Sheppard and Dan Murray. She is survived by eight of her 10 children, John (Judy) Murray, Gerard (Andreanne) Murray, Tisch (Paul) Hickey, Deb Murray (Miller Ayre), Randy (Jacinthe) Murray, Sharon Murray (Bill Bazylinski), Ken (Cheryl) Murray, and Patrick Murray. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Carl Sheppard, Ian Sheppard, Ashley Murray, Kayla Wieding, Michael Murray, Isabelle Lamoureux, Adam Hickey, Mitchell Hickey, Jean-Yves Murray, Martine Murray, Heather Wightman, Lauren Squires, Ryan Murray, Monique Murray, Nicholas Murray and Lindsay Murray along with 15 great-grandchildren.

Stella was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose photographs covered the walls of her home. She looked forward to visits from those who lived nearby as well as the many extended family members from away.
