Edie, Deanne, Renne, Matthew and your families - we were so saddened to learn that Cousin Wayne had passed, yet could find peace and comfort that he was no longer in pain. He had the Fitzpatrick wit, and loved to have a bit of fun - he made the fun whereever he went! We will always remember him as a fantastic ball player, a commited family man and volunteer extraordinaire to many organizations. One of the last times we saw him was delivering him needed eggs for a charity breakfast to save him a drive out to the farm to pick them up! May the many happy and fun times be in all your memories of Wayne.

I first met Wayne in 1985 and for the next 30 years Wayne became the go to guy in the local architectural community, providing us with our cost estimates. He was always a very pleasant person to work along side with, always accommodating, and in-spite of some impractical deadlines we imposed on him, he always delivered. My sincere condolences to Wayne’s family and to Tammy, who was the other quantity surveyor we got to know at Wayne’s office.

When I think of Wayne and softball, my mind goes back to the late 50’s in Dunville. Trying to get softball off the ground was an uphill battle: trying to find ways to raise a little money to “send away” for T-shirts, balls and bats; trying to clear rocks and debris by hand to make a ball-field; Friday night dances in the old hall; making 25 cent baloney sandwiches to sell to American servicemen at the dances for a few extra dollars. Wayne was just a kid then, but so determined that Dunville’s children have the chance that other town’s kids had. He deserves every single accolade. Softball Hall of fame? Oh yes! There’s no one more deserving. And everyone who knew Wayne then and since looked up to him. He was one of the nicest, most genuine and caring people I knew. Someone who really made a lasting difference. Please accept my most sincere condolences, Edie, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Rest in peace Wayne, I know you are safe in the arms of God.

Condolences to all of Wayne’s family and friends! I worked with Wayne in St Johns on the Cat Arm Hydro Project design together with Cat Arm Consultants and then we all moved out to the site management trailers during construction. Wayne and Ruby with their kids lived across the street from us and befriended our family during construction and later we continued to play softball and enjoyed visiting each other while we still lived in Nfld. Wayne was always a true gentlemen and had a very jovial laugh. I enjoyed helping him later in life in preparation of fire protection budgets as he performed various contract roll up budgets in his consulting days. I am really glad I had the opportunity of speaking with Wayne several months ago reconnecting by phone from our place in BC. Again Dena and I are sorry for your loss and know all his memories will be forever cherished!
Good Bless

Please accept our condolences on the loss of WAyne. I remember him well as a third baseman. We moved to Dunville from Labrador City and when my Dad started coaching softball, Wayne was one of his first ball players at third base. He was always so cool and collected on the field and a force to reckon with. Whenever our paths crossed he was always up for a chat. The friendship that started on the ball field continued for many decades to come The Hogan family extend to the Fitzpatrick’s and all of Wayne’s family members our sympathy on Wayne’s passing

Everything with Wayne was in common from Grade School through High School including Boy Scouts, altar servers, British Bulldog in the old church hall, community events and a little softball before I departed for the Air Force. Wayne seemed no different in his 60s when I last saw him then when he was a kid. Full of energy and enthusiasm and a winning smile, despite his long battles with cancer. "Between the jigs and reels" I have seldom met a better man. He will be missed and to all his family, sincere condolences. The quotation words seemed to be his signature lead in phrase! Lol

Condolences to Matthew and all Wayne's family. I met Wayne in the early '90's when Matthew and my son were opponents in baseball provincially but teammates for several years at nationals. In later years we were teammates in curling, rarely agreeing on strategy but always having a good time and sharing many laughs. I can best describe Wayne as good natured with a fine sense of humour. He was a good guy.

Very saddened to see that Wayne has passed away. I knew Wayne for many years through the annals of softball. Firstly by being an opponent of him, being a fortunate teammate of him in St. John’s Senior “A” and then later to be coached by him in the C.B.S.League. Not only was Wayne a great player, he was a wonderful human being. I was especially honoured when he and I were inducted into the C.B.S. Hall of Fame together in 1998. Those who encountered Wayne were very fortunate indeed. He will surely missed. The last time I spoke to Wayne was at a pancake breakfast at the original C.B.S. Stadium in 2003. To the entire family, please accept my sincere condolences from Edmonton, Alberta.
