Gerard Lewis

Obituary of Gerard Lewis

LEWIS, Gerard Frederick (February 1, 1957 — August 18, 2024)

Our special Guardian Angel has left us way too soon.

It is with tremendous sadness and broken hearts that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved, beautiful soul, Gerard.    Gerard was a devoted husband, father, best brother, dear friend and “Poppy Lewis” to his grandchildren.  We hope his sisters Janet and Maria, along with parents Marie and Bren, are now looking after him, just like he looked after everyone during his 67 years.

Leaving to mourn the love of Gerard’s life of 43 years Roslyn (Dawe); sons Brad (Jessica) and Chris (his best buddy); his precious grandchildren Lydia and Lennon, who he adored to the moon and back; siblings Brendan (Dolores), Andy (Lena), Joe, John and Mary Ann (Roger); brothers-in-law Tony (Sandra) and Terry (Coretta); Nieces Danielle (Matt), Leanna (Kyle), Heather (Justin), Stephanie (Ryan), Madison (Zachary) and Mackenzie (Randy); nephews Marc (Carla), Brendan (Zach), Michael, Andrew (Kaitlyn) and Ryan; and his special furry friend Elvis who never left his side.

Gerard and Ros met in trade school at the young age of 17 and fell in love. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful dad to his two precious sons.

Gerard was very outgoing from a young age.  He defied all the rules, starting with his long hair in high school.  He volunteered in many of his boy’s activities such as Boy Scouts and hockey coach.  He was an avid hockey player himself and loved watching sports – no matter what it was.   He was never one to relax and let someone tend to him.  He was the person who looked after everyone else.

Gerard was a dedicated Newfoundland Telephone/Bell employee. He retired early to start up a few businesses, including his most important one to him – Stinger Enterprises Inc.

There is a poem called The Dash.  It is worth reading.  Gerard’s dash was to be admired.  He knew how to live life, and it was shown by his love of travel, fine food and celebrating with family and friends.

Gerard will always be remembered for his fun spirit and his acts of kindness to others.  Our grateful hearts will cherish our many memories of him as he made a major impact on everyone he met.  Gerard will live on in our hearts.

In honour of his memory, please say hello to a stranger and be kind to everyone you meet.  If you choose to donate in Gerard’s memory, please consider The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A Celebration of Life will take place at the Manuel’s River Interpretation Centre on Thursday, August 22 from 12-4 pm.
