Elizabeth Parrell Power

Obituary of Elizabeth Parrell Power

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our mom, Elizabeth Parrell Power. Mom passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 85. Mom is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Edith Parrell, two brothers and her children’s father, Walter Chafe.

Left to mourn are her three children Cynthia [Mike] Southall, Kentville, NS, Christina [Mark] Lynch, Parrish, Florida, Walter (Pam) Chafe, Chaplin, SK. Siblings Jean Parrell, Lorraine Lloyd & Brenda Marshall. Grandchildren, Ryan Ernst, Meghan Ross, Matthew Southall, Thomas Southall, Samantha Davis, Daniel Southall, Morgan Lynch, Shane Lynch and their partners, and great grandchildren Mackenzie, Emily, Bella and Noah. Special niece and nephew, Stephanie Marshall and Frank Hebert and special cousin Lee Squires along with many other nephews and cousins.

Along with being a mom and Nanny, our mom had a business as a caterer, florist, gardener and seamstress. Mom also taught at the community college, was on town council, served as chair on the citizens committee, and was a nursing assistant for most of her career, she was always serving others. Mom had a passion for music and loved to play accordion and the mouth organ and carry on. Mom was a Girl Guide Leader, eucharist minister, sang in the choir and did home visits for those unable to come to church. Our Mom was forever doing something. She had a spectacular sense of humour. She loved spending time with friends playing darts, going to bingo, helping others start their gardens or teaching them to sew. She loved to travel and spend time with her family in Florida and Nova Scotia. Mom helped everyone in need. As children we were never surprised to come home and see something missing from our home because someone, stranger or friend had taken a shine to it and left our home with it in tow.

Our Moms greatest legacy however was in her zest for life, her healing gifts, her many talents, her can do attitude to try anything, her determination, only God alone could stop her when her mind was set to do something, her sense of humour and her ability to see a need for others and just get in there and do it. We now see all of this in her children and grandchildren. Mom passed on her love, compassion and forgiveness for others, to love all, even those a tad more difficult to love.

We would like to acknowledge the tremendous kindness shown to us here in Newfoundland on our journey with our mom, most especially the Chafe/Williams family for their love, keeping a roof over our heads, transportation to best support our mom. To Brenda Marshall for being there at a most critical moment and the Eagle Eyes Daughters of St. Pats Beauties who daily called or messaged us about Mom and how she was doing when we were not physically here with her. And the few truly caring staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, most especially Wanda Duke who video chatted with us weekly while she was there and loved our mom. All of your kind acts and love will never be forgotten by her daughters.

Flowers gratefully accepted or she would have loved it if anyone who wanted to honour her memory shared an act of kindness with a stranger.
