Obituary of George Mancel Halfyard

George Mancel Halfyard May 22 1924 - April 8 2015 With sadness, the Halfyard family wishes to announce that our loving Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion in St. John's with family members at his side. George Mancel Halfyard was a WW II veteran having proudly served overseas with the 166th Royal Newfoundland Regiment, British Army and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 45 Woody Point Bonne Bay NL. Many may recall the Land and Sea TV show episode; "The Garden of Mancel". That is how best we remember our Dad, at one of his happiest times, at home, toiling for hours and hours in his vegetable garden. Predeceased by his wife Ada (April 10 1997); son Maxwell; grandson David; brother Horace; sisters-in-law Edith Blanchard, Elizabeth Walters, and Mary Crocker; and brother in-law Alfred Sheppard. Survived by his nine children; Betty (Jim), George (Gloria), Paul (Ann), Ann (Jim), Jack (Rima), Marguerite (Myles), Eric (Lori), Lynn (Floyd), and Joy (John). Fourteen grand children; Heather, Sheena, Thomas, James, Joann, Jennifer, Nadine, Jonathan, Andrew, Cody, David, Kevin, Victoria, and Morgan. Five great-grandchildren; Charlie, Ean, Nina, Liam, and Luke. Sister Marguerite Sheppard and Brother Job (Audrey). Sister in-law Ethel Noseworthy. Brother in-law Thomas Wilton. He also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends and relatives from far and wide. His long time buddy Albert Kettle (Barb) from Port aux Basques, good friend Hemblah Young, close family friend Emily Blanchard, personal care giver Joanne Grice, and all the boys in Rendall's shed. In keeping with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at St. Andrews United Church in Woody Point on April 16 2015 from 7pm to 9pm and April 17 2015 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral service to take place at the St. Andrews United Church in Woody Point on April 18 2015 at 2:00pm followed by burial at the United Church Cemetery. The Halfyard family extends our most sincere appreciation to all the caregivers at the Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion in St. John's where dad lived his last year. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to St Andrews United Church fund in Woody Point.
