When we first arrived in Holyrood eight years ago, Robert quickly became our first and best friend. He constantly came to our aid, and we spent many hours chatting and catching up on town news when he dropped by. He helped us in so many ways; he was such a dear friend that his absence leaves a hole in our lives here. He will be deeply missed by us; our days are not the same without his visits. Our deepest condolences and sympathy to Lucy, Judy and the Thistle family.

Lucy, I was so very sorry to hear about Bob. Hard to believe that we met in 1978 and it did not take long for us to become friends. Every Christmas Bob would take his orders for the "Thistle Bakery". He was the baker of the family and between his brownies and cherry cakes I don't know which was better. His love for his family was evident whenever he spoke of them. The first time I met Lucy I told her it was a toss up who had the bigger halo. When ever one of the kids came into work, Bob would proudly introduce them to me then quickly get what they needed and then get back to work.. Bob was a hard worker and prided himself on doing it right. He was quick to laugh even if your joke was a bad one. Over the years I lost touch with Bob and Lucy, seeing them only a few times. But when I did have the fortune of bumbing into him he always had a smile and a great hug and started talking as if he just saw you the day before. He was always a gentleman and I will always remember the kind and thoughtful things he did for me in the years we worked together.
Lucy my thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope with time things get easier. He will always be missed and always loved.

Dear Lucy and all the Thistle family, Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. The loss of our loved ones is never easy. I have lots of great memories of being in Manuels, and I am sure we were pests! Also, Boxing Day was a big day of family coming together and our Thistle cousins were so much a part of that. In my thoughts, Ellie

I have only had the pleasure of knowing Robert for a relatively short time since I started dating Charlie. In that time Robert has only ever showed me kindness and welcomed me in to his home and family. Robert had a wonderful sense of humor which was evident up to his final days even though he had to endure much pain and discomfort in the final weeks. In the past five weeks I spent a considerable amount of time with him in the hospital and hopefully was able to make his time there a little more comfortable (feeding him popsicles, often behind Lucy's back, and keeping the cold apple juice and water coming). During that time, it became evident how much he loved his family and that he was concerned mainly about how Lucy and Judy would manage without him. He was a very gentle man and although he could lose his patience if I didn't understand immediately what he needed or was trying to say, he was quick to say he was sorry and moved on. My only regret is that I didn't have longer to get to know him better. You will be missed and always loved. Rest in Peace Robert.
