Ruth I am shocked and so sorry to learn about Alfs passing, my warmest sympathy to you and the boys. I am coming home this week and was just looking for Alfs name using google to find your address again and i was shocked to see the notice. Now i feel such remorse that i did not take the time to go over last year when i was home. Alf was part of my childhood memories and so well respected. I still remember when he came to visit dad one night when i was a toddler and i saw him in uniform, to me he was like the friendly giant. Please contact me with a number i can reach you at Ruth!

Last September I had the great fortune of getting to go for the first time to Newfoundland with my best friend, Lloyd Foote. With only a week and so many things to see and do, Lloyd certainly packed a lot into the schedule. Everyone we met were wonderful and everything we did was so enjoyable, but the highlight of my trip that will forever be the memory of my first fishing trip in salt water. We got up early in the morning and headed out to meet Ruth & Alfred. They greeted us at the door with open arms and I got to tour their beautiful home overlooking Conception Bay. After introductions we were put to work getting the boat ready for a morning of fishing on the Bay. The water was a bit rough but we ventured out anyways. Alfred set us up with the rods and the adventure began! Within no time at all we had our limit, we got our feet wet, and had lots of laughs! We headed back in where Alfred professionally cleaned and pack our booty in short order. Ruth called us in for lunch where we enjoyed a generous helping of fresh, homemade broccoli soup, fresh made bread and pie for dessert! The view was spectacular, the food delicious, and the company made me feel like I was home! I can't thank Alfred and Ruth enough for the memories of that day that will last a lifetime, and I Thank God that I had the chance to meet them both. Alfred, I trust that someday we will get a chance to meet again in the East and reminisce about that wonderful day, until then, may God bless you and keep you safe. Thank you my friend for such a wonderful memory!

To Aunt Ruth, Gary and Doug So sad to hear about the passing of Uncle Alf. Although he wasn't really our uncle we grew up with him as part of our family. He could always make you laugh with his silly jokes and stories. He was always interested in what we were doing, even after we grew up and moved away. I know my mom and dad will miss your times in Florida but we all have wonderful memories of Uncle Alf. Love Lois

Dear Ruth, Edna and the entire Cake/Crews families...was so very sorry to hear of Alfred's passing. There are too many memories to list on here, but going home was not complete until Ruth, Alfred, George and Edna and ourselves got together, either in Lamaline or Upper Gullies. I remember, probably the last time we stayed at the Crews residence, we enjoyed a great Salt beef dinner and Mrs. Green made the best peas pudding that I have ever tasted. We had a great evening, and after retiring to our bedroom, found out later that we were sleeping in Gary's room....he returned home, going to his room for the night only to find out that there were two people already sleeping in his bed! This is just one of the many, many happy memories of Alfred and Ruth....of course we sometimes had to listen to a lot of police stories, Jim being an officer from the Toronto force. Our sincere condolences to the entire family. Take care of yourself Ruth, God Bless:) Jim and Millie Neish.
