We are so very sorry to hear of Rev. Owen's passing. While we are from the same community on Fogo Island, our memories of Rev. Owen immediately go to Corner Brrok, July 9, 1977', the day he celebrated our marriage. He was such a gentle and soul. To each of you, take good care of yourselves and of each other. Sincerely, Garry and Joannie

Here's my favourite memory: I was building a fort for the older one, Deirdre (Dee Dee, since gone on to fame if not fortune in LA) up in the woods on back of our house on Tobin's Road. She may have been 8. Up through the woods comes Dad. With Reverend Coffin in tow. Long time friend, fisher, hunter. I don't remember if there were drinks in hand. Mostly because that was the usual so NOT having one would have stood out. Owen and Dad stayed and chatted for some time, clearly enjoying us and that summer Saturday morning. The next day, Owen delivered one of his many warm, relatable and heartfelt homilies. As was his practice, he used a real life story upon which to build his lesson. This time, the story was about a father who took his Saturday to build a fort for his daughter. Our thoughts are with you. He was a tremendous man and a wonderful friend to Mom and Dad. David

David and family Thinking for you today with sympathy in the loss of your Dad. He will be remembered for his dedication to his church and community, but I will always think of him as a man of quiet humility and soft-spoken kindnesses. May his strength of character live on in all of you as you carry on with all the wonderful memories that are yours for always. In friendship, Loretta(Dawe)O'Brien and family

Arch Decon Owen as we all called him, was a very nice man to know. We met him at the Lavrock centre during a Cursillo weekend in 1991. Some of our fondest memories of him were during those weekends for the next 15 yrs or so. He was a very funny person and quiet the prankster! Some of the pranks include him loosening the stopper on a salt shaker, putting salt in your tea, taking your dinner and hiding it while u were up getting tea, and the list goes on. He loved to get people wet with water fights. And during dinner if someone stood up, you would hear him say "joke on the floor" then the person would have to tell a joke. Owen was a wonderful man of God, a genuine Christian. This was obvious by his love for God and His word and for all people he came in contact with. He was a great mentor for me on many occasions. He was definitely a help to my husband and I on our Christian journey. It's been a while since we've met, but we thought about him and Louise often. Owen will surely be missed by Louise and his family and friends. Heaven will be a better place with Owen there and he's gonna have fun cause God also has a great sense of humour! God bless and give you the strength and courage you need to get through this time of loss and grief. Rest In a Peace Owen our dear friend.

We have many fond memories of our times together learning about our christian faith.. He showed us ways to express our faith through teaching in many forms. Humor, prayer, meditations and homilies but especially his humility.
