Obituary of Fred Rennie Coates

Coates, Fred Rennie- ( June 17,1929- July 22,2009) Passed peacefully away at his home in Upper Gullies in the presence of his loving family. Pre-deceased by his parents Fred and Lizzy (Payne) Coates. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife Bertha (Roberts) who will cherish the memories of 60 years of marriage, daughter Betty (Chris Hart); sons Fred (Pat), Gordon (Barbara Ann), Bruce (Dawn) and Greg (Diane); grandchildren Kim (Jeff Sutton), Christopher (Chrissy), Michael (Stephanie), Freddy (April Allen), Matthew, Deanne, Paul, Michelle, Bradley, Ryan, Victoria and Mathew; great-grandchildren Rachel,Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Colin, William, Christopher, Mikayla, Eric, Fredrick and Taylor, who all dearly loved Poppy; brother Howard (Linda) and family; brother-in-law John (Rita); sisters-in-law Mary Peddle, Hazel (Danny Cross), Matilda McCarthy, Verna Turberfield, Ethel (Clyde Allan) and families, as well as a great number of friends and colleagues. Special thanks to Dr. John Hardy. A Staunch supporter of human rights and equality, Fred dedicated his life to compassionate service in his family and his community. He served with pride and distinction as a member of the Metropolitan Toronto Police, Director of Human Rights for Newfoundland, and Mayor of the Town of Conception Bay South. He is remembered for his loyalty, devotion, strength of character and the high standard to which he held himself. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 am-12:00 pm, 2:00pm- 4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am-12:00 pm.. Funeral Service in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Upper Gullies on Saturday, July 25,2009 at 2:00 pm..
