To Edward, Betty & Anita and Their Families:
I'm so sorry to hear of Mary's passing. I just learned of this sad news today from her brother Edward while we were both at the Royal Bank here in St. John's. We had many great laughs both in games of cards and while we worked together at the Kelligrews CBS Stadium. She was a great friend. I'm glad to hear that she was surrounded by her family and friends during her final days. I'm sure she will be missed by everyone who knew her. May she rest in peace. Love, always.

My deepest condolence to Mary’s Family. My association with Mary goes back a few years. How time changes everything. Thinking of her now, I feel I can still hear her laughter, which brings back so many memories, My sister Jo-Anne and I would look forward to her regular visits to the Cortez Beauty Salon to have her hair done. She always brought such joy with stories that we will never forget. Mary and I took driving lessons from the same man, and after each lesson we would have such laughs together talking about our sessions. I worked with Mary at the CBS Stadium from its original opening until she left. The building was still under construction and some of the issues we had to work with were amazing. Mary could always solve everything no matter what. She would always have A fix it story, that would solve everything with her beautiful laugh. Stories that will stay with me forever. A beautiful person who brought joy to so many.

We enjoyed many visits at our home in Holyrood by Mary and Vince. After moving to Ontario, I would often get a phone call from Mary for a little chat and to catch up on how life was treating us all. My condolences to Mary's family. I remember Mary from her visits to my parent's house with my Uncle Vince. Vince was my father's younger brother (Frank Stapleton). When I think about Mary it is her great personality and wonderful laugh that comes to mind. She was kind and generous to a fault. Without a doubt you have wonderful memories of her. On behalf of Helen (Nellie) English and family we would like to offer our sincere condolences on Mary's passing. Mary and Mom were the same age. They attended St. Edward's School together and were life long friends. They attended lots of dances, ice skating, boil ups, berry picking, babysitting, birthday parties, drives around the bay and sleepovers up to Dawes. There was always a game to be had and if they were unable to come up with one Rita wasn't far.
Not as much time was spent together during the years of raising families. However, there were always phone calls and they didn't miss each others birthdays. It was remarkable how their stories of childhood could keep them chatting on the phone for hours some 60 to 70 plus years later.
When Mom told stories of her childhood and teenage years Mary was always in the story. As her children we always wandered who is this Mary? Mom's response was my friend girl. So friend girls keep an eye out for each other and when you two meet again, we hope and pray your love, friendship and giggles all over again. Rest in Peace Mary.

Donna and I were surprised to hear of Mary’s passing this morning, but we know that death is the destiny of us all. We offer our sympathies to Mary’s sisters and brother, and their families. We appreciated Mary’s support to my father, especially in his last years with ill health. She loved to cook and bake, and we appreciated meals she shared with our family. I distinctly remember the cherry cakes. The grieving process is more difficult with the restrictions in place with Covid-19. May the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, be with you at this difficult time.

I have so many wonderful memories of being with Mary over the years. In addition, I recall her visits to our home on Bell Island when we were young.
