Obituary of Gerald Abbott

Gerald Walter Abbott Passed peacefully away at St. Luke’s Home in the company of those who loved him, Gerald Walter Abbott, age 70, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Left with wonderful memories are his wife Ada, step-daughter Samantha (Glenn), their children Rebecca & Will; his brother Don Abbott (Mary), sister Geraldine Tilley, and sister-in-law Clarice; children Scott Abbott (Michelle) & Susan Batten (Jimmy);stepchildren: Jennifer O'Reilly and her children Ellen & Daniel, Dwayne & Sean O'Reilly and their families, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and many friends including colleagues from his career with the Bank of Montreal, and long-time friends from the Antique Car Club. Gone on ahead and waiting to greet him are his parents Naboth and Annie Belle Abbott, brother David and brother-in-law Rex Tilley. Gerry was a wonderful partner, stepfather/grandfather, brother and friend. He was a kind man with a gentle soul and a soft heart—a true gentleman. He loved life and always tried to see the best in everything and everyone. He had a contagious smile and sense of boyish mischief that we will miss most. He loved antique cars, Nascar, camping, dancing, music, roller skating, long strolls, and any excuse to gather and celebrate. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Luke’s Home, particularly those wingless angels on Pleasant View Terrace for the care and compassion they provided Gerry with these last few years; you made our journey much easier with your steadfast care. In light of the current pandemic situation and considering the age and medical condition of those most likely to gather in Gerry’s honor, the family has requested that there be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and interment will happen on a later date during a private family ceremony at Topsail United Cemetery. If you wish to do something in memory of Gerry, may we suggest a donation to St. Luke’s Home, the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice. Alternatively, you could take some time to visit someone you know in long-term care. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.hickeysfuneralhome.com “Goodbyes are not forever.
