To all Mary's family and friends, especially my special friend, Mary's sister Janis;
When I got the call from Janis on Saturday evening, I was in shock. I can't imagine how her family felt. I met Mary a few times and we used to joke about both of us being called "Mary Elizabeth". In a way, I was proud to share this special bond with her. May the wings of angels carry her to their place of rest among the fluffy clouds, as she was truly one of them, an angel. Her quality of life among the angels will surely be more acceptable to her than the suffering she endured in later life here on earth, which she bared without complaint. Dear Melanie, Rhonda, Robert and all the Butler Family:
I have lost Mary, one of the best friends one could ever have; she blessed my life for over 15 years. On our last phone call before her surgery I told Mary she was "My Hero and the Bravest Woman I have Known" in my life. She was my lifeline when I returned to Victoria, BC and when she left BC to return to her family we talked by phone constantly ending each call with "love you". Her kindness, gentleness, sense of humour and love of family and friends have been a blessing to all of us. Rest well with the Angels my Friend - you deserve it.

Robert, Rhonda and Melanie;
I know we’ve all found our own lives and have drifted apart, but I’ll always feel that we were and are friends as well as cousins. My Mom has been so close with Aunt Mary throughout the years and she had kept me informed of Aunt Mary’s health daily and everyone’s lives. I feel saddened by the loss of your Mom, and I would like to express my deepest sympathy to each of you.

We are all saddened at the loss of Aunt Mary. As I recall many memories of her, the ones that I treasure most are the times she came to visit me while I was in the hospital after hip replacement and introducing me to reike. She visited me several times and her soft gentle caring ways will remain with me always. Anyone who knows her will recall her love of children and the work she did with family resource centres - her patience and loving ways were surely apparent.All you need do is look at the wonderful children she raised, Robert, Rhonda and Melanie. Jim and I were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Mary’s sudden passing on December 6.We came to know Mary through our son Jason who has been married to Rhonda ,Mary’s daughter since 2004. We always found Mary to be a gentle,kind and courageous person ,who was a pleasure to know.Mary had many challenges in her life ,but was never bitter ,maintaining an uplifted spirit despite adversity ,and always left you feeling happy..She showed great love and admiration for her Grandkids Seamus and Cara ,as we do,.and always took the chance to boast to me about how great they were .We had that in common.Mary showed great determination in her life and lived life her way with courage and love.We will miss her .Godspeed Mary ❤️

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to come in person to celebrate the life of this most amazing person. It saddens me that I won't be able to be in Newfoundland to support Rhonda and the kids, Melanie, and Robert, and the rest of the family during this very difficult time. It has been almost 30 years since she accepted me into the Butler family, always supporting me and offering her love and kindness. She was an amazing mother-in-law and grandmother. All she wanted was to make sure that the family was happy. She loved just to sit and chat and hear about all of our adventures and how the kids were doing. She rarely talked about herself, preferring to find out about others. She was one of the sweetest people I've ever known. I loved her very much and I will miss her every day. She will stay in our hearts forever.
