Hi Tony(and family).
Sorry to hear about your dad. My mom told me a couple of days ago. I remember being in Pool's Cove when I was around 12 years old (circa 1975) and I saw my dad speaking with this tall man with a large stature and equally large voice, laugh and smile - your dad.
Take care.

Rex, Eva, Don, Enos Tony and your families.
1968 when we moved to Manuel’s your family were the first family we met. I always felt so welcome at your home, your mom, dad, nanny Hillier, auntie Faye and all the family quickly became like family to me. Even though you had a full house there was always room for others, greeted with a smile, treated like family and knew you were always welcome back.
And thank God even though we moved, I’ve kept in contact with Eva, and kept up with the family. And Mr Hillier came to visit us faithfully every trip he went to visit his friend Ralph Tremblett, and would happily tell us all the things that happened in the family since the last visit.
Your dad was a amazing person, anybody that was lucky enough to have known him and spent any time with him is a better person. Because he definitely thought them something to remember him by - mind would certainly be, his love and respect for family, because there’s no person I know that could love and respect his family more then John Hillier. God bless him, he will surely Rest In Peace.

To the Hillier Family, It was with great sadness I learned of John's passing.
My memories of growing up together in Bay-du-Nord are special.
Especially the "come home year party!
John was always a kind,person and as boys rowing a dory,if he were passing in his motor boat,would shout"throw me the painter!" and he would tow us home.
Later,when he was on ships and would come to Toronto occasionally,my brother Enos and I would "go aboard" and "have a few"
May his Family take solace in knowing the wonderful impact he had on others.
Hughie

Rex, Eva, Don, Enos and Tony;
I don't know how I can possibly express the condolences that I hope you will come to feel. Your parents and mine were such close friends that your loss of your Dad also constitutes my loss of my "Pop Hillier". I can't share that loss to the same extent that you must, of course. But I hope it may be of come comfort to you to accept another opinion of what a fine person he was, and what sort of influence he exerted on others. He is one of the few people I can bring to mind of making the transition in friendship from his generation to the next one - I always felt as welcome in his home, in my own right, as my own dad did in his day. Your Dad was a true gentleman, and that is a term I never use loosely. May God bless you, and bring you the comfort of fond memories to replace the bereavement you must now be feeling.
John.
