There are so manny memories. Cannot share anyone in particular. Mostly all funny. A few sad. John and my husband were great friends thru wood working.
John would show up anytime of the day with his new piece of work and they would sit together and critique each other’s work. He did beautiful segmented works of art. He shared his raspberry bushes with me and my two sisters. We bought berries and jam back to him. He loved my sweet bread at Christmas time. I will miss him. But he’s happy to be back with his loved ones and his friends. Farewell my Friend. Rest easy, and in Peace

Rev. Fred and Penney Family:
So sorry to learn of the passing of your Dad, whom I have known for many years. Following his admission to Meadow Creek, it was my privilege to minister to him in person and during the pandemic by phone. He always prayed along with me and it was not uncommon for him to pray for me personally before I left. Ruth joins me in sending our sincere condolences and the assurance of our prayers for all family members during these difficult days.
Blessings on all of you.

I have a fond memory of an impromptu “kitchen party” with John on accordion, our son on guitar, and the rest of us trying to keep up with them as we sang along. A wonderfully joyful time. John loved his Lord Jesus with an overflowing joyous, and deep love.

So sorry to hear of Uncle John’s passing. We had many a good chat in room #75. We hit every Tim’s in Conception Bay. I am sorry I did not get to see him more as of late. I spoke with him on my phone Friday afternoon, and I could tell he was hurting. He will be dearly missed. I am on the road and may not make it so say farewell, but Uncle John, you hold a special place in my heart.

John Penney made me feel so welcomed into his home during my visit to see Dorothy's place of origin.
His warmth, smile, cheerfulness and thoughtfulness were so endearing.
I have fond memories of John & Dorothy sitting with each other, early in the morning, out in his backyard.
John was always hard at work either in his lovely garden, or in his wood-working room, creating the most impressive wooden pieces ever.
I will treasure the skill & thoughtfulness he put into the wooden pieces he gave to me.
To Dorothy & All the Family, I pray God will comfort You as You journey through Your feelings of grief & loss.
Deuteronomy 31:8 "Do not be discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of You.
He will be with You; He will neither fail You nor abandon You".

Mel, Fred, Dorothy and family. It’s never easy when the time comes for our loved ones to leave this earth. Your father was a faithful servant who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and shared his faith with all he met. Your Dad’s work here is done and he is now with the One he loved and served so faithfully. Not only that but he is also reunited with your Mom and Steven who went home before him. We know you all will miss him dearly. But as you know, for the believer, death is just a temporary separation. We get to see our loved ones again in the land where there’s no more parting, no pain, no sorrow or tears! We indeed have that blessed hope Scripture talks about. Please be assured of our thoughts and prayers at this time of sorrow. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. - Matthew 5:4

Sincere condolences to Wanda, Li-Anna, Georgia and the Penney family. Mr. Penney became good friends with my father at Meadow Creek. My dad, Andrew O'Neil, asked that I pass along his deepest sympathies to all of you and to let you know that although John's presence will be missed, the most positive light that was John Penney, will remain in the thoughts and hearts of those who admired him greatly. May your treasured memories give you all peace and comfort and may his soul soar with the angels.

To the Penney family. Please accept our condolences on the passing of your dad . If we could find one word to describe John Penney it would be “faithful”. He attended our church for many years. ( more than the almost 40 we have been there) and served in many areas. He was an honest, hard working and dedicated man and loved to sing, to play his accordion and even write a few songs. He loved to spend time with family and friends . He loved a good laugh and good food but his greatest love was His Lord and he was unashamed to tell anyone and everyone about his first love. We honor his memory today , we sorrow with the family but we rejoice that he is enjoying his reward ....” Well done John.”

As a young man I'd hitchhike to and from work. One day John picked me up and gave me a ride. He told me Jesus wanted to be my best friend. I later did give my life to Christ and never forgot about the words John said to me that day. I later find out that John was a cousin of my grandmother and I thought of the goodness of God that he would use somebody in my extended family to tell me about the love of Christ. Praise God for you brother. Until we meet again. John's that day became a reality to me and I am very thankful for the fellowship I shared with John as I also being from C.b.s began to attend John's church.

I’m very sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle John, a man who filled his life with wonderful creations. Whether planting flowers and vegetables in his magnificent garden, building trains and landscapes in his basement, or woodworking in “Me Shed”, Uncle John’s ability to make the world around him a beautiful place was remarkable. I will forever carry with me many wonderful memories of him. Probably my fondest memory was the time he came to stay with us in Arnold’s Cove, when I was little. We spent practically every evening playing my table top hockey game together. He was always, jokingly, accusing me of “cheating”. He “knew” I was “cheating” because I had “rubber on my chin”! His sense of humour, kind nature, and passion for life stands as an example for us all to follow.

To Mel, Fred, Dorothy, and the whole family. We were shocked and greatly saddened to hear of Uncle John's passing today. His love of the Lord, His family and life were unparalleled. My earliest memory of Uncle John was him showing me how to hold a hammer and nail to help with the siding on your home in Sprucehill Lane. I was 10 or 12. When I started wood-turning in the early 2000's he was always there to challenge me to improve my skill there as well. His smile and Good nature will be missed, God Bless you all with his peace and strength in the coming days. To be absent in body is to be present with the Lord, I am sure he is strolling around Heaven tonight enjoying the beautiful garden and being with the Lord he served for most all his life. God Bless you Uncle, I miss you already. Joey
