Obituary of Anne Griffiths

 Anne Griffiths:

Passed peacefully away on January 20, 2022, Anne Griffiths, age 82. Leaving to mourn Alan, her devoted husband of 65 years, sons: Anthony (Alice), Phillip: (Dana), daughter: Kathryn (Michael), grandchildren: Andrew (Melissa), Susan (Joshua), David (Stephanie), Alan (Richelle), Matthew and Nicholas, eight great grandchildren - all of whom she loved dearly, sister-in-law: Caryl (Gareth) and family in Wales, as well as special friends: Trudy and John, Mac and Jan, Richard and Lucia, Brenda, and many other close friends who greatly enriched her life. Very special thanks to Dr. Bannister, Dr. Hurley and Dr. Bergstrom, and to the nurses and staff of the Ambulatory Care Clinic, all of whom took such good care of the lady they lovingly referred to as “The Queen''. Anne was born in Wales, United Kingdom, and moved to Newfoundland with her husband Alan, and sons Anthony and Phillip, in 1969.  Soon after, in 1971, their family was complete when their daughter Kathryn was born. In Wales, Anne worked as a nurse and volunteered at the Coombe Cheshire Home for adults with special needs. In Newfoundland, Alberta and Australia, she volunteered with associations that helped disadvantaged children and adults. After working at Daybreak Parent Child Centre and Busy Bee Day Care, she founded and operated “A Child’s Place” in St. John’s, and ended her career directing the early childhood centre at Booth Memorial High School.  She was twice president of WAMUN at Memorial University. Anne loved to travel. She and Alan travelled widely in Europe, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and the Caribbean. Their Florida condominium was a special, welcoming place, and a jumping off spot for their many cruises.

Anne also loved to have friendly chats while sipping from a glass of white wine, watch the latest episodes of Coronation Street and Escape to the Country, sneak treats to her corgi Guto, and quote lines from her favourite movie, Shirley Valentine. Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID restrictions and pandemic regulations, there will be no visitation and funeral service at this time. Donations in Anne’s memory may be sent to  the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or the charity of your choice. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.hickeysfuneralhome.com
