Barb and family,
The news of David's passing brings such sadness. His compassion and integrity endeared him to so many. He always took the time to reach out to others in such a gentle and unassuming way. I don't know whether or not he realized how much the time he spent with Mom and Dad meant to them but I hope that he did. His caring ways brought them much comfort. From my earliest days in the CLB to seeing him while chasing Dad around the Old Comrades cabin, and so many times between now and then, Dave was always there, and always the same old Dave. Always a smile on his face, always asked how we all were, always a chat. He did so much for the CLB, the Old Comrades and the whole community that he could never be thanked enough for. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you during this time of extreme emotion and sadness. I got to know you both
through my sister Eileen, back in the early 80's. The memories, though few, were very vivid of a man who displayed the qualities
of kindness and caring. I last spoke to Dave at my sister's wedding a few years ago, and again, the conversation revolved around
a person who always asked how everyone else were doing. How was work? How were the kids? And the list goes on!
At times like this, I often like to find comfort in the poem "Out, Out" by Robert Frost. Frost, in his closing lines,
reminds us of the theme, " In spite of its tragedies, life must go on!" There really is no other way.
Barbara and family, I trust that the memories you all have of your husband and father will give you the strength
and courage to move on with your daily lives. I'm sure Dave would not want it any other way!

My wife and I moved to fox trap in 1982 and had the good fortune to move in next door to Barb and Dave and their wonderful family
Any time you were taking on a project he was there willing to help and provide the know how and labour to complete the task
My oldest child’s first night away from my wife and I was spent in the care of Barb and Dave and we were happy to have them there for us
That was 39 years ago and although we have moved away we still counted Dave and his family as our friends

BARB and FAMILY – Dave may not have been big in stature, but he sure was a giant of a man!! He had a heart of gold, a phenomenal personality, and a smile and a twinkle in his eye that was unmistakably and distinctively Dave. I can only say that whenever I received that call, “Hey my buddy, what are you at tomorrow?”, I knew I was in for little workday either at the Parish or at the Old Comrades wilderness camp. If it was at the Camp, I knew I could look forward to our lunch around the table, likely over a plate of moose sausages, having an extended chat. To say Dave was genuine was short-changing him – he was a team builder - he spoke from the heart, and gave from the heart. While Dave may have answered his last roll call, he will indeed remain on our roster. Rest easy “Old Comrade” – we’ll see you at the next Reveille

My heart is saddened with the news of Dave's passing,knowing that I've had my last cup of tea and lunch with my wonderful friend.
I could write a book about Dave's genuine love and kindness that he shared with all who knew him.
Our friendship began when I was Renee's kindergarten teacher many years ago.
Since that time Dave and Barb were two special people that were always there for my family, no matter the need or circumstances.

Our families touched each other lives years back when Tracey and Rene were going to school.They were close friends and she always looked forward going to Mr. and Mrs. Butlers she said they were my other parents. Early today in Edmonton I was awakened with a phone call from Calvin informing me of the passing of my most treasured friend David. To say that he was a friend only partially covers the regard, admiration, appreciation and respect I held for David. The whole town of Conception Bay South will feel the loss of one of her favoured sons. The C.L.B. will sound the last post for one of its finest soldiers. Words fail to express how I am feeling!
Dave, as Bob & I knew him was one of the kindest , caring person we ever met.
Met him at my sister Eileen's place first time and then over the years many times we would meet again as we visited. Always so happy, always concerned over everyone; last couple of years when I came to Eileen's in Kelligrews, when Bob wasn't well he was always concerned about Bob's health and one could sense as he talked that Dave Butler was genuine in his love and concern for others.
I always appreciated how him and Barb were there for Eileen and Nadine. For that Barb I say a big "Thank you"

A family is grieving, friends are grieving and a community is grieving. The world has lost a beautiful, kindhearted, caring, compassionate and selfless man. If you were lucky enough to know Dave, then you were like family to him. If you didn’t know him personally, well the many great things in this community wouldn’t have been possible without Dave’s helping hands. Dave was a giver; he gave without thought, he gave without expecting anything in return and most importantly, he gave with his whole being, not because he had to, but because he wanted to. Dave was a family man through and through; the love for his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his extended family knew no bounds and was evident whenever you spoke with him.
Whenever you’d meet Dave out and about, whether it be at the grocery store, the post office, the church, or wherever, you were always greeted with that warm smile, that twinkle in his eye and usually a hug. Then a chat about how you were doing and how the family was, he always took the time to stop and say hello and wanted to make sure everything was ok with everyone. We certainly remember many chats at the counter in the store. We’d talk and have a chuckle and a laugh, he always brightened our day whenever we ran into him.
Though we grieve his loss, we need to be proud and remember how he lived. He lived by example, he practiced what he preached and we believe that all of our lives are that much richer because of Dave and his humble ways and for that we will be forever grateful.
May you rest in eternal peace and my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Butler and Peach families ❤️

Mr. Butler was an amazing person and always brightened our day when he came into our workplace. He was always so pleasant, kind and genuinely cared when he asked how you were doing. I'll never forget the times I had when you lived on the foxtrap access rd, from going to your cabin in brigus junction or building the CLB camp. We had the pure pleasure of meeting up with you guys this summer at butter pot, it was a great evening playing bean bag toss. Dave you will be greatly missed. May you RIP.

So sad to hear of Dave's passing. My memories go back to Dunn's Hill Road and my childhood with us all living in the same yard, practically. Wonderful memories of not a worry in the world and just having fun. Keep the joyful memories close to your heart to help you get through the rough times ahead. I always loved running in to Dave and Barb whenever I was home. It didn't happen often but when it did, it always left me feeling warm inside. Take Care of each other. To Barb, Renee, Sonia, Scott and your families...
I was absolutely shocked and saddened to hear of David's passing. He was such a meek and mild-mannered man. Always a delight to have a chat with. I had the pleasure of working closely with him and Uncle Herbert at Uncle Will's basement remodeling a few years ago, and being neighbours on Dunn's Hill for so many of our younger years created lots of good memories. So sorry for all of you. He undoubtedly left a very positive mark on his community and the people who knew him. May you find peace in the many wonderful memories created. Rest in Peace, David.

Aunt Barb , Renee, Sonia and Scott , I am deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Dave’s passing and I’m sorry I cannot be there to comfort you in this time of need . Words can’t describe what Uncle Dave has meant to our family and he will be missed dearly. He has touched so many people both in our family and in the community at whole that it will leave such a big void to fill .
