Obituary of Cynthia Boland

It is with great sympathy that the family of Cynthia Boland (nee Janes) advise of her passing. Known for her generosity and fun-loving nature, Cynthia was born in St. John’s on April 12, 1947, and passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022 following a brave battle with ALS.

Cynthia was predeceased by her Mother Violet Janes (nee Coombs) and Father Charles Janes. Cynthia is survived by her loving and devoted husband Roy Boland, dearly loved daughter Lesley Sooley (nee Boland) and her son-in-law Marc Sooley. Also deeply mourning her loss are her grandchildren Victoria Sooley and Noah Sooley, who she loved beyond measure and gave her many joyful days during her life. Even her furry friend Sophie will miss Nanny and her treats.

Roy and Lesley, as well as Cynthia want to give a special thanks to her cousin Nancy Geehan who was constantly by her side throughout her illness. Cynthia was cherished by a variety of caregivers throughout the last few months, and it is hard to name just one, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care and empathy you showed. In her last days at home, she was cared for so respectfully by her Daughter Lesley, amazing neighbor Rizalyn Arcedo Sletvold, and a beautiful care worker, Desiree Dunn.

Cremation will take place in the coming days. A memorial will be held at Hickey’s Funeral Home in CBS on Sunday March 27th from 1-4pm, followed by a service at Topsail United Church on Monday March 28th at 2:00pm.  For those friends and family who are unable to attend the service, a Live stream can be viewed by clicking on the link below https://tom0349.wixsite.com/streamingservices/hickeys. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.hickeysfuneralhome.com

Following the service, close family and friends are welcome to join the family for a celebration of life at Lesley's Home (2 Ryder Place, Paradise, NL).

In lieu of flowers, Cynthia requested donations be made in her memory to the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/30761).
