Obituary of Edwin C. Kennedy
Kennedy, Edwin C.
Passed away peacefully on June 2, 2022, at 89 years. Predeceased by his wife Winnie of 58 Years, his parents, Harold and Blanche Kennedy, daughter-in-law, Debbie Kennedy, granddaughter, Heather Marie Kennedy, sister, Barbara Coffin, brother-in-law Harold Coffin and extended members of the Kennedy and Morgan families. Edwin was very much a family man. As children, we recall fond memories of riding up Smokey Mountain in Labrador, singing “On Top of Old Smokey”, we recall coming across from Bell Island on the weekends to Seal Cove or Long Pond to visit our grandparents to cook up a ‘feed’. He was always a big supporter of us in CLB, hockey, dance, figuring skating and in our education and careers.
Our Dad was a true community leader. He served on the first CBS Town Council and the first Business Association. He started his own local business, Kennedy’s Home Improvements, and also encouraged many others in their business endeavors.
He was a true church man helping the Ministers in Labrador to start the first Anglican Church, assisting the Anglican Minster in teaching church duty badges to the CLB. He was the first child to be baptized in All Saints Church, Foxtrap. He served as Sideman and in many other roles within the church. He was a member of the Masonic Avalon Lodge and one of the original members of Lodge Conception as well as founding member of the Masonic Lodge in Trinity.
Left with fond and loving memories are his sons: Don (Elizabeth), David (Cynthia), Gary (Julie), his daughter, Jennifer (Mike), his six grandchildren, brother, Erwin (Velma). Edwin is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all the special Caregivers at Admirals Coast Retirement Centre, in Kelligrews, and Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear, where Edwin had been residing for the last number of years.
